Are players and their characters mortals or immortals?

You would be correct in thinking its a game mechanic. Player characters are mortals.
I'll leave the definition to someonen else.
I asked this in WoW general as well, because I'm not sure where this question belongs. So I'll copy and paste.
I don't seem to understand the concept.
I can res as many times as I want with a penalty or without, but I do not understand wether I am considered immortal or mortal, even if I am considered mortal, how come I can ressurect an ulimited amount of times?
Ofc, I understand that this must be in game for game mechanics, but could anyone please explain what being immortal and mortal means in WoW?
We are not part of cutscenes
humm, the whole concept of "get your ghost back to your corpse" is simply a mechanism to prevent a permanent game-over, death in wow is simply a minor setback (no kael jokes pls)
lore-wise all our characters are mortal though (with the exeption of draenei), just see the forsaken players, and the DK players of any race, lorewise they died, and were resurected by the scourge........
as for your second question, what does mortal and inmortal mean in wow, here's the definition.
a mortal is by all standards someone who belongs to a race that can age and die of natural causes.
Humans for example are mortals, just to put a simple example, Varian is a strong warrior, yet no matter how powerfull he is, sooner or later he WILL die, wheter by sword or by the slow decay of time, one day he's gonna "kick the bucket" and nothing will change that.
Dragons on the other hand are not mortal, regardless of how many milenia pass they will never age, or get sick, they will live untill the end of days, or until they are slain.
yhea, even if you are inmortal in wow you can still die, having inmortality simply means you won't age, and won't die of natural causes, but if a strong wound is inflicted upon you, you do get killed.
all-in-all there are 3 stages in wow.
Mortals: they can be murdered, or can die naturaly by sickness or old age.
Inmortals: they can be murdered, but are inpervious to aging or diseace.
Eternals: they can't be killed no matter what, they never age, they exist now and forever and ever.
almost all lore characters (including our player characters) are mortal, some few are inmortal (like the dragons, or draenei) and only a small really tiny minority are eternal (like Sargeras, or Elune)
of course, there is one exeption, any mortal who practices any kind of magic can achieve inmortality, as mages can delay their aging prosess via magic, so their bodies still age and get old, but they live on, just as maryl winterstorm did, or aegwynn did.
same goes for mages who transform themselves into liches to prevent death by natural causes, they are an unusual exeption of the rule of 3 ranks that dominates in wow.
but no matter how strong the magic, nobody can achieve Eternal status, unless granted by another eternal (wich was the case of xavius, achieving eternal status via sargeras)
I hope this cleared it up.
