Frost 2H Tank Build - aggro question

Return to board index

Hi.
Today i returned after 1 year and I'm enjoys tanking dungeons. Now I made a build for my Frost tank that I want to level through 72-80.
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#j0xhZhg0thMhkfubuuVo0gG
My goal was to make it max protection as it comes with less DPS. So I have a question, Will I have some aggro issues? I'm considering DW as something tells me that it's better now.
Any advices welcome!

Ummmm, are you using this to dps/solo as well?
Actually never mind, it's not a good build for much of anything ;)
-
UC
+
HC
+
Chillblains
= PvP talents.
-
Acclimation
procs rarely, and is useless as soon as you take damage from more than 1 school of magic, which is usually the case.
-
IIT
is a dps talent.
-
Endless Winter
is marginally useful, but you really should have plenty of RP at all times to afford Mind Freeze.
-
Icy Reach
is entirely useless, and at worst dangerous because the larger HB radius can lead to pulling more mobs than you intended.
-
SoB
. 2/3 returns just as much RP as 3/3 considering the proc rate.
Add that all together and you get instead:
2H frost tanking
.
The reason DW is better is because it has higher single-target threat, comparable to 2H blood actually. The faster swing speed allows for more rune strikes, as RS requires an auto attack to hit. Should you decide to go that route, get two slow dps weapons, put the
Nerubian Carapace
runeforge on them, and use
this
talent build.
IIT
is a dps talent, but so is black ice, killing machine, glacier rot e.t.c (which are all in your build, what I'm saying dps = threat)
"but you really should have plenty of RP at all times" - a DK tank shouldn't really have any runic power ever, as it is constantly eaten up by rune strike and their runic power dump, but you are right in saying endless winter isn't a mandatory talent.
"-
Icy Reach
is entirely useless, and at worst dangerous because the larger HB radius can lead to pulling more mobs than you intended. "
Icy reach doesn't work like that, it increases the range spells can be cast, not their area of effect radius.
You're making some valid points, but to be honest you should double check some of the things you are saying, because some of it is wrong.
Also leave unbreakable armour out of your build, it is a completely $%^& talent.
@OP - If you are completely adamant about 2 handed frost tanking WITH icy talons, use this build -
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#j0ERZhxhxAbIzf00hzAo0g:kaomMV
(The good thing about 2 hand frost is you have 6 points extra for not taking the mandatory duel weild talents, you pay for the game, so if you want 2 hand frost, do it.)

Complete, finished and polished #$%^. Remove this link, it's not good even for a laugh. And read stickies.
The very first your mistake, you didn't picked the 2h mastery.
To the rest (and to comment on the thread),
I said it in other thread, and will repeat here, Scent of Blood and Chill of the Grave - pick one or another, not both.
Maximize Bladed Armor - it's threat. Lots of it.
"DK tank shouldn't really have any runic power ever," - truth to the poi... well, comma.
IIT - is a threat generation talent _for 2h tanks_. By the same reason, that you pointed as plus of DW tank - faster swings means more RS out, eve more with it's prerequisite -
Icy Talons
.
Speaking of
RAID BUFFS
, you are not gonna raid before 80, and you'll not be raiding outright once you hit 80. While you made semi-valid point, it's up to every player to prefer this or that talent, without making obviously weak choices. IIT isn't weak choice, especially for 2h tank. For grinding heroics, IT+IIT outweight many of the possible options easily.
My goal was to make it max protection as it comes with less DPS.
It's not just &*!@, it's bull*!@#... DK tank has low DPS, but likely highes damage output. My palad tank outperform my DK tank only marginally.
So I have a question, Will I have some aggro issues? I'm considering DW as something tells me that it's better now.
After 3.3 hit (what will be really soon), it'll be even enough, and even now it's not a question of success or faiure - just personal preferences and ability to play the class you choose.
If you have attitude to play class "because it's better", reroll to paladin... they always better, no matter the nerf.

This
is what I've been using to tank heroics. I find acclimation more useful than people claim on the boards here, especially in the ICC 5 mans (where there's a lot of magic damage flying around). I'm not sure what Iralima means by "is useless as soon as you take damage from more than 1 school of magic" since you can have more than one acclimation up at the same time.
I don't really care for Deathchill, just cause it seems like such a long cooldown for such a relatively minor benefit (a single crit every two minutes, even HB, just doesn't seem worth it) but I guess there aren't a lot of other places to put the points. I like 1/3 chillblains because when stuff isn't immune to it (which, I admit, is rare), it can help a little in terms of controlling mobs. (I've noticed that it's pretty handy in the tunnel in PoS). And it does make jumping in BGs as Frost a bit more fun.
I really only find myself needing 1/3 Morbidity in order to have DnD available at the start of pretty much every pull. There are a couple situations (where DPS is pretty high) that I have to wait a couple seconds for it to be up, but nothing unreasonable.
All that said, I am currently dual specced tank/tank and have a completely different (Blood) spec for raiding. So if you plan on raiding with your current spec, some of my advice will be less applicable.

After 10-day practice session :) I had little more experience and some news.
I switched to this build :
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#j0EhZhxxzAbI0fh0hzAo0g
I took Lichborne, because I experienced wipes because mob feared me and the healer.
I invested 2 points in Chill of Grave, this gives me some additional RP, but not many. I think about switching it to Improved Frost Presence or between Deathchill and Unbreakable Armor. 2% less damage is not much, won't help me. As Tank I don't like 100% crit buttons and Unbreakable Armor is a waste. Runic Mastery could be best though, because few times I found myself with full RP and bad time to use it. Icy Reach is really useless.
I took Chillblains, because it gives healer time to escape whenever I'm too busy to notice that he had been attacked. ;)
Your's thought now. ;)
