Alright I was just thinking, about old threads. This post may be completely irrelevant and might never be implemented. But...
OK, So, you join Wowhead. You are a newb. You make mistakes. I got this idea from a very recent incident involving a embarrassing thread of my own. It was dragged up. But anyways, that isn't the point. The idea is the semi-lock ability.
The idea of this is simple, when a thread is old, or is requested by the author, it can become semi-locked. Which means users can still post on it, but the thread will no longer be 'bumped' to the top of the forums.
So say a person has not answered in say, a month. The thread gets semi-locked.
So say a author is a newb last week but a experienced Wowhead user this week, he does this,
"Hey, can somebody semi-lock this thread?"
This would be for author only.
I believe that this would be a very useful tool. If it was not mis-used.
Hmmm...interesting. If you're assuming that old threads don't get regularly checked for updates, what's the reason for doing this instead of just locking it?
Well, just the fact that some users may want that thread to just .. Die. W/O Deleting it. Another opition would be another button beside 'Report' to say, petition for the semi-lock. But the users who want to keep Reading/Posting can bookmark it and still do that, w/o annoying others with bumps.
Hmm...Well I can see the possibility. Not something I had ever considered, but a possibility!
