As shadow you cant just run in and lolwtf, you'll have to outwit your opponents and usualy it will be alot of "holyforming" to heal up, and plenty of running/evading. it takes training, but shadow is very strong when you understand how to play it, its not quite like disc, obviously. go some in BGs to get comfortable with the spec before you go into the arena imo :)

Practice, practice and then practice some more...
It really depends what other class you team up with for 2s. You really want someone that can keep enemies off your back, Mages, Warlocks, Rogues, Paladins, Death Knights, Warriors, Hunters, Druids and Shamans all have better CC than us, as all we have is Psychic Scream, Mind Control, Silence and Psychic Horror. If possible, and as hinted at by cohut, try to avoid running in first and generally drawing attention to you. Sit back and wait for your teammate to set up the start of the game, see if he can take an enemy out of combat for a couple seconds, then unload all you got on the other opponent.
It's hard to give specific advice without knowing what kind of team composition you have in mind, but from experience (playing against SPriests, never actually played one in Arenas), a well played SPriest can be devastating in Arenas, while it can also be utterly useless if you mess things up (A.K.A. Get whacked by a Rogue before you even get a spell off, if he manages to get your teammate sapped and/or out of LoS, etc...)
