Most people already had 70's when Wrath launched, and to make the Death Knight the 'Hero' class, they choose to make them level 55, and had a class requirement of having a level 55 at that point.

Blizzard want you to have a level 55 character first, so that you at least know how to play a bit. So that you've actually played the game and have experienced a substantial part of it.
But you've taken an easy route to 60, with a relatively easy class. Now you're going to take an even easier class to 80, only to find that the DK is actually a lot harder to play properly at 80 than you'll be prepared for. Continuing down this path will earn you the title "... the Deathknoob" and will get you kicked from groups after the first pull.

Grats! On your new main. As for the 55 requirement.. is was really meant to be a "bonus" for high level players to access a new class without starting at one again.. also it meant to help with tank shortage... which it really didn't IMO... But from a lore perspective it makes sense... I mean they are supposed to be the Lich Kings former champions... so it makes sense to start them at 55... I honesty I think it would be strange to have a class with such a deep lore and a naturally powerful origin to start at level 1.... it would be a little inconsistent..
There isn't a tank shortage. If anything there is a healer shortage. People never need tanks for raids. It's always healers. With free gear being pumped out every noob and their girlfriend* thinks they are a tank and should run a guild.

why do they make you have a lvl 55 character before you can make a death knight in the first place, do they want to force people to use raf to make deathknights?
Umm, because otherwise they would have level 55s running around with no clue how to attack or cast spells, how to learn skills, how to use the AH and mailbox etc etc etc. Well OK, there are already people out there like that, but more of them!
