Righteous Defense question, macro needed or not?

I have not tanked since thy changed the way RD works. Last time I tanked you needed a macro to be able to taunt by targeting the mob and not the player. My understanding now, is that a macro is not needed and that you can just target the mob and cast RD.
Is this correct? Can the player still be targeted as well? Does it taunt up to 3 mobs still?
I have tried a few times and it is not working as I believe that it should. I will have a mob targeted cast RD and it still wants me to click my target. Not sure what is going on..
Thanks for the help.

Righteous Defense
needs to be cast on the player the mob(s) are going after. This will attempt to taunt up to 3 mobs.
Hand of Reckoning
is the spell you're thinking off. It is used to target a mob and then attempt to taunt it off of whoever it is attacking.

Incorrect. Righteous Defense can be cast on either mob or player. It no longer needs a target macro to do so.
And when "cast" on a mob it will cast the spell on whoever that mob is targeting.
So it's not that good for taunting a single mob of another tank.

It's still much more easily cast on the unitframe of the party member under attack.
How do you figure? What advantage does it grant?

It's also nice if you use grid+clique or healbot while tanking. Little red dot shows up in the corner of one of the boxes that isn't you, quick mouse click, problem solved. No target changes, no frantic camera moving to find the person or mob causing the problem, everything you need to know and do is right on your UI at all times.

Armill3, does the regular UI show you who has aggro on the unit frame itself? I think that's the advantage that Grid/Healbot has (that and if you have an holy off-spec you are probably used to looking at it for that info anyway).

I know the regular UI shows aggro via the red border that appears around it (or yellow as they come close to aggroing) for parties, but I don't know about raids. I can't stand the standard raid frames so I never look at them.

This. Rocking healbot while tanking makes taunting significantly easier and is a very effective way to play.

I have 4 hotkeys for my group. With a single click I cast this spell on any of my 4 mates and the mobs hitting him. It makes it far more useful and usable. It also has a second spell (hand of salvation) attached to it, so if I hit it a second time (keep in mind the global cool down) it will also put on the dandy 20% threat reducing buff on the player.
