Gold buying and what you think
Return to board index

You see here... if Blizzard was smart, they would sell gold. Blizzard would increase their profits from it thus making the business blossom even more! I mean come on, they now let you change servers, factions, sex, names, what have you!
Think about the servers economy.
Buying gold would ruin the game,
Even more user would be tended to buy it but now from Blizzard.
Blizzard would encourage what they'd banned people for over the past years.
So all those gold buyers would've been misthreaded if they would sell gold on its own.
I think gold buyers deserve to be banned. Don't ruin the game by making it yourself easy people.
When buying gold you'll end up being hacked by that service alot too.
Never read those story where people are angry because they got hacked?
Those websites are evil, visiting them can even be dangerous..
STAY AWAY FROM THE GOLD SERVICES!
This. Each server economy would gradually begin to reflect the IRL economy, with those that have disposable income in the top tier, and those that don't or refuse to pay extra money for something that is
easily obtainable
with a little elbow grease fighting to keep up.
Thus, the rich get richer at an even faster rate, and the server becomes even more imbalanced than it already is. People start to leave for other MMOs that don't offer legit gold buying services, and Blizzard starts to lose money. I think that Blizz realizes this, and thus will at least reserve gold selling as a last resort to keep their clientele.
EDIT: What happened to the original post I was quoting? O_O

Well if this is going to reflect RL, then maybe it should happen. So people can find a way to survive and take away some more life lessons from the game.
Isn't one of the main attractions for games like this the ability to escape from real life?

In terms of WoW buying gold is wrong. Why? Because Blizz makes the rules and buying gold is against their rules. They feel it is best not to allow this practice so regardless of personal opinion gold buying in WoW is not justified.
What would make it right? If Blizz changed the rules and said it's ok to buy gold.
Lot's of pay to play MMO's operate on the idea of selling virtual items-even Blizz isn't totally against the idea. Look at the pets they stick in collector's editions, pets for buying an authenticator. Take a look at how much money Blizzard just donated to Make a Wish and how much they kept from selling the Panda pet. How much does a spectral tiger mount sell for on ebay? If you disagree or agree with gold selling there is a vast amount of money to be made by selling virtual items. With that kind of money at stake it's not going to go away...Blizz is a huge cash cow and I know they could make a lot more cash if they wanted to by selling virtual items and if Blizz doesn't take advantage of selling virtual items -someone will.

Blizzard should adopt the Eve Online system where people buy game time cards, and these could be sold for gold.

Not all gold comes from hacked accounts.... anyone seen the bots running around from time-to-time?
There is still a subsegment of sold gold that comes from either botting or slave labour, neither of which I want to support either.
Either which way, I'm sure the more "legit" sites will still have dubiously gathered gold. They may rely on you more as a repeat customer, rather than defrauding you, but once they have your card details, they can charge your bank account whatever they like, and it could come some months later.
I'm personally against buying gold. If you don't have the time or just have your ingame priorities elsewhere, then that's your issue to fix, preferably in a way that doesn't contravene the ToS.
If you want a game you can buy your way to a better char, there's plenty of games out there for you.
The bots are usually characters FROM hacked accounts. No gold seller would waste time leveling a character to farm gold, when they can just play upon peoples greed and stupidity and steal an account with one, if not more, 80's.

I can give two good examples of the effects of currency buying: Lineage 2 and Final Fantasy XI.
Lineage 2 didn't do anything when gold sellers came on the scene. They allowed it to happen. Prices of normal items skyrocketed and then the bots came into play. Today, very few people play the game legitimately and it is essentially played by by bots, which became a necessity simply to afford mid quality items within a reasonable amount of time. The sad part is the private servers are now regarded as more legit than the official servers because they have tighter rules.
With Final Fantasy XI, the gil sellers controlled the market. All the high quality and top items (which would last you for a LONG time) only had the requirement of being first on the mob. So bots were implemented to beat all others to these items, the items would be sold for a ridiculous amount of gil, and the only way to get that amount was to buy gil from the same people who are posting the items for the insane prices. It got to the point where the only way you could get these items was to use bots yourself to simply have a chance at them. To date, the devs implemented new items which are BoP, but the ones which caused this fiasco in the first place are still non bound and still desirable. As such, they still haven't fixed the problem and I doubt they ever will, as it will cause way too many people to leave.
There's no way to be a reliable currency seller without having to cheat the system and the in game market. Anyone who contributes to this really has no room to complain when the market gets too high to sustain itself legitimately and when the game devolves to nothing more than bots and cheats, they can look in the mirror for the cause. It has happened before, it will happen again.
