Feral DPS sucks on bosses
Return to board index
First here is my armory:
In heroics I have no problem being on top of damage charts dps/damage.
However I seem to drop badly on raid bosses. I know it is probably my rotation.
What I have been doing is feral charge/Shred/mangle until 3 CP's then Savage roar, followed by Mangle-shred until 5 more points then Rake. Then sort of repeat of the above - if I have extra energy and combo points then I will use Ferocious Bite if everything else is still running. Raid bosses in TOC for example I am averaging 4k dps but my damage output is not the best. So obviously my burst damage is good but the bleed effects are not being used properly?
You're doing it wrong.
As there is no real rotation, we speak of a "priority list" for cat DPS. Try to follow the following instructions in the given order.
1. Keep up Savage Roar
2. Keep up Mangle
3. Keep up Rake
Use shred for CP regeneration
(remember, that points 2 and 3 are more important)
5. When at 5 CP and Rip is not up, use Rip
6. When below 30 Energy, use TF
7. Use Clearcast Proccs for Shred
8. When at 5 CP and Rip and SR are running with 8 seconds (might be longer, depending on your gear) or longer each, use FB
9. When Rip and SR will drop at nearly the same time (with less than 3 seconds difference), try to recognize it early. Then use SR with a small amount of CP to desynchronize both timers.
10. Use Berserk only at high energy, (but not higher than 85) not directly after TF and as often as possible. If you will get Hysteria or some boss mechanics will enhance your damage, save it for these situations.
He probably just misnamed some of the abilities he uses. He definetly does not use
to build up CPs for
. Seems like a hueg rotation problem anyway.
Also, dude, how in the holy hell did Pounce get there. Not only 372% of the games bosses are immune to Stun, you should not even open bosses from stealth. That single Ravage at the beginning of a fight is hardly going to give you a dps advantage.
Even if we assume where he says "Ravage" he means "Rake" and where he says "Rake" he means "Rip" then he's still doing it wrong, because there are no Shreds in there at all suggesting that Mangle is his go-to CP generator.
He might also just mean "Feral Charge" when he says "Pounce."
Whoa sorry about that - I suppose more coffee was needed. I corrected the rotation.
So lets start from the beginning:
Boss fight starts:
Savage roar (or best to do this after 3 combo points?)
Then repeat to 5 combo points to allow Rip.
I will need to pay better attention to the cool downs I guess to see when they drop off. Is there an add-on so I can learn this better -(I normally do not run DPS add-ons ) and I find it challenging learning the rotations on the feral. Few buttons but can be very complex also.
Again apologies for the wrong terms used.:(
Don't clip your DoTs. If Rake or Rip hasn't run out yet, you don't want to start a new one.
Mangle and Savage Roar are uptime abilities though, so it's better to get a new one off slightly before the last one wears off (but again, don't clip it excessively or you're cutting into your DPS).
You don't need any particular number of CPs to do Savage Roar. In fact, Mangle -> Savage Roar -> Rake -> Shred to 5CP -> Rip is probably what you generally want to start with. (Or some variation thereof, depending on whether you need to refresh mangle in the middle.) Because the sooner you get Savage Roar up the better; there's a reason it's first on the priority list. After that, you just need to use the priority list to keep your abilities up.
There are a lot of different options for tracking the durations of your abilities. I use ClassTimers, cause I'm a bit of an altoholic and the addons handy for a lot of different classes. There are some other options as well, including some cat specific ones.
had a good number of responses with different options.
This just screams at me in so many different ways...... >.< be nice be nice be nice be nice
Work on the basics.
1) keep mangle up if you are mangle bot. Get an addon like bad kitty to track it since you may have an arms warrior in the raid.
2) don't clip bleeds(Rake and Rip). Refresh them
the last tick
3) 5cp SR and 5cp Rip should remain up 99% of the time, that 1% for the split second after your bleed ticks it's last tick for you to refresh it.
4) Use energy on shred if all other debuffs are up and nothing but shred.
Get used to this. Once you have a better understanding of this rotation and are comfortable with it, then think about incorporating FB into your rotation.
Gear wise, you are over hit cap, and should probably get NES and gem for armor pen. Do this AFTER you get used to the style of dps and are starting to use FB more often. Dropping the agility for armor pen will lower your crit, making your combo point generating a bit tougher meaning the rotation will in turn get tougher.
Do your job right please, and don't give us a bad name...
when are you berserking?
