if youre keeping track of dps in pvp, youre doing it wrong.
Also I dont know why you posted this in the paladin forums.

Mate in PVP - DPS is meaningless -staying alive and TOTAL damage is whats important.
You will need to download an add on called Recount - Have it OPEN and it will track DPS for you as you go. I needed to know the same thing when I first started.
Its an add on that tracks damage. When your character says it will do 566.3 (not an add on but your actual character screeen (c) - that indicates if nothing else "white" damage (auto attack) will do 566.3 damage. This is before multipliers, spells etc
Hope that clears it up

PVP and Raid content are not the same thing.
PVP is player directly vs another Player
End raid content is PVE - Player vs Environment
They both have different requirements. Whilst in PVP if you are a Ret Pally - you job is to do lots of damage and stay alive so that you can beat the other players.
In PVE - your requirement is to be as strong as possible so that you can help all the other players in the raid work together to kill something. In this instance you are getting a raiding spot because you can do a LOT of damage.
In PVP the gear has a lot of resilance (which helps you mitigate damage so when you do get hit you dont get hit so much)
In PVE - things like strength, crit, hit (til capped), Expertise (til capped) are most important. You dont need spell power because most of your damage comes from "swinging" a two handed weapon. You dont need parry or stack stamina because your not a tank. In a raid its someone else's job to cast heals on you.. its your job to kill whatever it is so they dont have to try and keep you alive longer than you should.
There are plenty of sites and posts on here that will help you work out what gear you need. If it has spell power in it.. dont need it... anything really other really than what i have listed you dont need.
ITs a little hard to give you a complete list because there are so many items in WoW but have a look (inspect) other rets when they run past OR look up Ret Pallys on armoury and check out their gear. Look at the stats they are using and look for the patterns.
