Medivh was corrupted by Sargeras before he was even born. Under that influence he opened the dark portal, allowing the orcs into Azeroth. Some time after that he was slain by his friend Lothar and a few others.
Later, he returned, free from the corruption of Sargeras. That was when he helped defeat the Burning Legion.
