My silly pet idea

I want feedback on this little idea i had today randomly while tripping out on a mixture of cold medicine and sunny D (colds suck).
As we know Wolves are the current top DPS pet non BM so everyone and their mother's podiatrist uses one (including me).
Now as many of us know they are pretty much completely reworking the Hunter class in Cataclysm at least with the focus instead of mana thing and what not.
Basically this is how my idea would work, you would tame a pet and be given the option of speccing it into a tree that you choose (Ferocity Tenacity or Cunning) and put the talent points your pet has into it.
This would allow you to use your bear to DPS and your wolf to solo. You would also then be able to switch your pets tree around from a pet trainer.
The reason I would like an idea like this is to just bring some uniqueness back into hunter pets, it would be interesting to see the combination of pets that people had for their various purposes (Can you imagine bringing out your turtle to own dps?)
(Yes I know wolves are better because of Furious Howl)
Thank you if you read this and any and all feedback would be nice.
Disclaimer: I ramble a lot and this is just a thought so what I put may not be completely there at least yet :P

Hello fellow rambler. I like that idea. It would make pets that much more interesting. We all know that Ten. pets have a lil more duribility. In pvp my pet is often focused. I have many cunning and ferocity pets. Cunning uses roots, snares, stuns, and silences. Ferocity pets up my dmg and theres as well. Id like to have a wolf spec'd Ten. That would make him last a lil bit longer lol
I really do like giving each pet the 3 different trees. Its like playing to different characters

I do like the idea too. I do like my wolf but I don't like that I "have" to use it to get the best dps. A dps'ing bear would be cool and I could also start using my hyena which I love but never gets used cause the dps loss is too much :(
There are so many cool potential pets out there it is a shame we really cannot make use of most of them.

I agree with this idea! It would bring in a little unique quality to each hunter in being able to decide what pet he wants and what situation he will use them for. I hope Blizzard considers this for the expansion.

I like this idea a lot. The only difference between pets would be their unique ability (webbing, furious howl, bad attitude etc.) and of course the way they look. It would bring variety back to the hunters.

How about this...
at level 10..you get a quest to take a boat to a faaaaaraway island.
on that island are a whole herd of free roaming, untextured cubes.
you can choose any little untextured cube that you like...
you give him/her a name...and then you get back on the boat and return to Azeroth.
then, its off to the pet stylist...you can choose how your pets looks, what sounds they make, what pet family you'd like them to belong to, and their abilities.
that way, everybody can bring whichever pet they want to the raid...
(ALL of which should still have Furious Howl, being the best raiding ability...so underneath they would all be wolves anyway.)
sorry...I couldnt make it any more sarcastic, I really tried.
Haha, I liked it, good job

I like this idea partially...I mean every type of pet that exists in WoW has in its core a "cunning" ability, so that aspect could be worked in easily. Perhaps (though it would probably take more work then they wanted) having every pet type have its own tree, and depending on where you spec down into depends on what it is, like the OP suggested, so say you get a crab and want it ferocity. You spec into that tree and somewhere in there is a talent like furious Howl (the idea of a crab howling is hilarious to me, wonder what the in game sound would be!). Or you tame a wolf and want him to be cunning. Down in that cunning tree would be some talent that would have an ability to demobilize or stun (sniffing crotch? IDK!) etc etc for the different pets be it scorpion Silithid or kitty.
I do like the idea though, and hopefully its something that's been tossed about the big blue office.

This would be an option for those players who do not get 'into' the game. They don't play e.g. a troll but a bunch of pixels. It could be coloured blobs or markers as far as they're concerned. Items are just stats and the way they look doesn't matter.
Most people I know (YMMV) do roleplay to some extent in that they immerse themselves in the world. They play e.g. a troll and care what an item looks like. So they tame a wolf and not some pixels.

Since every pet family has a unique ability, you would end up with the same result. Once you take into account the best Ferocity spec, there will be one pet family whose special ability gives it an edge in most circumstances. That will be the new raiding pet.
While your suggestion is interesting, it does not solve the problem under consideration.

I don't see the point when you can walk around with whatever pet you want and stable it during raids. It doesn't seem like it's worth the effort to completely rework and rebalance hunter pets for simple vanity/model concerns.
If there was a larger overhaul being done to pets, then there's no reason not to look at the idea---but they just did a pet overhaul so it's not likely to happen again pre-Cataclysm. And you'd be better off suggesting it on the official forums where Blizzard employees are more likely to see your idea.
