So as the title says, im wondering how many hours of fishing it will take to get to max. I'm just going to sit in SW and fish, not bother with moving around so i can level cooking at the same time. just looking for an approximation. I'm currently 240 fishing

You're better off doing the coins in dalaran, you get the achievements too :)

At the very least, you can fish up some useful buff food from schools in Northrend. If you want to level cooking with the fish you catch, you'll have to move a lot, since each recipe will only work for a few cooking levels. You'll need higher and higher level fish as you advance cooking.
I tried fishing in Dalaran, it's dreadfully dreary... worse than fishing in SW somehow.

Fishing in Northrend is the most profitable, from what I've found. And I mean Northrend aside from Dalaran -- the fish from the places there doesn't sell well. Even my low level characters can fish from Valiance Keep, and with the Grand Master trainer right there, they didn't have to travel to get to the next level.
Of course with lower skill levels, there's a whole lot of trash caught, but even the trash sells better than the fish in most other places (1 silver for a tattered cloth, for instance, compared to a few copper for a Longjaw Mud Snapper).
