I would try to get points into Improved Counterspell, Cold as Ice, and Shattered Barrier.

Also, your pet's Freeze is invaluable, so I would trade your Glyph of Eternal Water for Glyph if Ice Barrier.

I'm no expert by any means, but here's my build.

Improved Counterspell is invaluable against classes with instant casts (like druids and priests).

Shattered Barrier is very helpful against melee when your Frost Nova is on CD.

And just like Sponty said, the freeze on your elemental is worth much more then having him permanently.
