Haste or AP revisited
Return to board index
So I know this question has been asked a lot on this board, but the answers are all over the place. Some people think it's not worth the gemming for haste at lower gear levels, some believe that gemming for haste = AP, and there are other opinions as well. I'm not too sure what to do, or if my gear level is high enough for haste to be an option.
Here's my armory, what do you guys think.
By the way, I know I'm extremely over hit capped right now. When Tuesday rolls around, I should be replacing some of my outdated ToC25 gear with T10.
will tell you what you should be stacking.
Rawr tells me I should be stacking Haste, but I'm not too sure about it. Plugging things into Rawr, gemming pure haste gives me about 30 DPS more.
Wouldn't it be better to gem AP instead, because the Spirit Wolves get 30% increase in AP with the the glyph and it adds to spell power as well. Haste only adds to my white hits correct? I guess global cooldown as well, but it wouldn't effect Maelstrom weapons due to it's PPM nature?
Now this is all speculation, but the EJ Enhancement guide is a little funky (still has Sunwell information), so I'm just trying to get a good bead on this.
Haste gives more white hits and more flametongue, static shock, and maelstrom weapon procs. The trade off is that gemming haste over AP makes all of those attacks hit for less, but more frequently. Going haste over AP might give you very marginal improvements on a single target, as rawr spat out for the OP, but once you start adding other targets (trash or adds like Anub'arak), then AP starts to win out.
Don't regem, it's really not worth the cost, but if you get new gear you could try it out. With so many adds and trash in ICC, I'm sticking with AP stacking. As a benchmark, I'm pulling around 10k on trash (the more adds the better), and I've been fairly consistent at 8.5k dps on 25 Festergut.
I've actually gotten the opposite as soccer above, as I believe ICC has MANY more single target DPS fights than multi-target fights. The list, as I see it:
Multi: Deathwhisper, Council (though, not really), Dreamwalker, probably Lich King
Single: Marrowgar, Deathbringer, Festergut, Rotface, Putricide, Blood Queen, Sindragosa (although, there are times when you have to kill the blocked people, which makes AoE a little better here)
Thus, to me, in ICC...haste wins out from a fight perspective. In addition, EnhSim has my EP values of haste extremely high (2.3 - 2.4) even after gemming for it and this is only going to go up once I get 4p Tier 10 (when getting to 5 stacks of Maelstrom quickly is important).
Well it looks like this is still up in the air. Let's say I kept the pieces I had right now gemmed for AP and then I threw in 6x 20 haste gems for those two new pieces in my Armory, would that be more effective than just pure AP? Or do I have to "go big or go home"?
Edit: I just thought I should add that with my old gear I was pulling around 8.2k DPS on Festergut, now I have a new weapon (i252 vs i232), new belt (i264 2x gems vs i232 0 gems) and a new chest (i245 x2 vs i251 x3)
8k isn't too shabby. I out-gear you by a small bit, so that sounds about right. I know I was able to replace all of my old AP gems with pure Haste and AP/Haste because of BGs and an absolute excess of badges I had (at one point, over 200 triumphs), so I don't consider regemming to be all that painful.
The best way to do what is best for you is to simply sim it. For the vast majority of players in ICC25 (roughly 232+ gear), haste is more than likely going to be superior to pure AP. But, how much superior is dependent on a whole host of things.
