This is the way i look at it. Play what you feel is comfortable and effecient for you. Ive played both, and I prefer SV.
SV can do the dmg, but it also CC. Others might argue, might being the operative word, but a SV hunter can lock down very well. Scatter Shot, Wyvern Sting, Trap effectiveness, plus the right pets, we can keep players tied down or force them to use their trinkets to break free.
Ive been working on calcs to mix with the SV to increase the amount of CC and buf^&*e to those that benefit from AP. SV is powerful if you go all the way down, which is prefered by most, but there are so many things that can be added from the MM and BM trees.
If you go MM, I think you stick to the PvE rules. DPS is your job. Thats my opinion. Use Silencing Shot on the casters, healers are priority, Viper Sting too. Freezing Arrow to place CC from the start. Depending on the map, that early Freezing Arrow might force a trinket.
Thats all my opinion. Others may disagree about mixing the trees, but thats still my opinion
