Hmm... That's an interesting concept, balance Druids actually being Priests of Elune. I have a feeling that Druids worship the moon to, just differently, largely suggested by how Tauren Paladins worship the other eye of the earth mother (referring to sun), so the first eye that the Druids worship must be the moon. So yes, I would be male.

It used to be like that in Night Elf society. Druids were male and priestesses (and sentinels) were female. That was just the way it was. But come WoW, it was possible for any gender to train to become any class. Still, NPC priestesses outnumber their male counterparts, and most druids are male.
On a non-lore basis, when WC3 was made and nelves were shown, each unit had to be of a certain gender. So it made sense to keep the castes/classes/genders clearly defined.

I suppose the events of WC3 put things into context. Although really, I was led to believe that Metzen argued for male Druids only and female priestesses only, but I suppose his case wasn't quite strong enough.
They had to balance things for WoW, but the Night Elven priest organisation is still called
Sisters
of Elune.

Lore doesn't equal game mechanics obviously.... but for the most part, even in Game most of the Priestesses of Elune are all female, and most of the Druids of the Circle are all male.

It's a good question. With Warcraft 3 there was distinction, but you could count as a Priestess of moon. However, the distinction after third war disappeared.

Because that is when they started allowing the opposite gender into the ranks.

Priestesses of the Moon are female only in-game and lorewise. Druids were male only but now they accept female too.
There are male night elf priests but they can't be part of the Priestesses of the Moon.
By the way, is ''lorewise'' correct word? Or is it lore-wise?
