Not appropiate, different language, flaming, racism, pointless.
That should cover most reasons for a thread to get locked.
Btw, if you want a discussion about leveling Hunters good and bad points, there are stickies..

Well, for one thing it was a double posted Thread. So one of them is going to get locked. And seeing as how the one in the General forum states the following:
((I know crossposting is bad, but I posted this in the Hunter forums and realized it's not really a Hunter question.))
It only makes sense that the one in the Hunter forum was the one to get locked.

If the thread has nothing constructive to contribute, then it will most likely get locked.

Locks on the wowhead forum make no sense sometimes. Especially on the randomness forum...when posts full of randomness get locked? Ok?
Kinda seems like mods have free run on here to do as they please without any sort of supervision.

Randomness is about topics that aren't WoW-related, not pointlessness.
Aye, especially when a thread descends into flame wars... that doesn't need to stay open. That's what happened to the "Play as a Female Character" thread that was up a few days ago; too much flames, not enough discussion by the end.

I've played moderator on a different forum. And while I can't speak for the moderators here, we had a number of scenarios where a thread would be locked.
Cross posted threads were often locked. Threads that devolved into flame wars were often locked. Threads that were insanely old (especially when there was a more current thread on the topic) were locked. Over-discussed topics may have been locked. Inappropriate threads were locked (some threads didn't devolve into flame wars, just a whole bunch of stupidity that didn't need to be on the forum).
In some cases, we would clean a thread up by deleting the truly offensive posts. There were some threads where this happened over and over and over and over again, and we just got tired of it. So we'd lock the thread after deleting the worst offending posts. But to a normal member, the deleted posts were invisible, so it sometimes wasn't very clear why the thread had been locked.
Personally, I liked to put in a reason for the lock. "OK, this thread is nothing more than a flame fest, we're done here." Or mention the number of deleted posts. Whatever. But not all moderators (even on the forum I was on) would do this.
Oh, and yes, we had an off topic forum. Threads there still got locked, when they devolved into flame fests or huge amounts of inanity or duplication. It wasn't ever an "anything goes" forum, and I presume that's the same situation here.

It was locked because the OP double posted. When I locked it there were no replies, you may have posted as I locked or there was a delay in the lock due to how the site runs.

As mentioned, it may be called Randomness but that doesn't mean create completely random/nonsensical topics, it just means anything other than WoW.

They are supervised by me. If you see behavior you don't like, please contact me directly at feedback@wowhead.com. I'm not omnipotent, and sometimes things will happen that I miss.
