How often does blizzard make new realms?

perhaps i was searching the wrong keyword but i'll just post this here while i continue to find it.

i'm an old player. recently the news of cataclysm has awakened my inner gamer and i felt the need to begin before wow 4.0 goes live.

since i was going to do it i thought i'd do it on a new realm. right on the day it opens.

so i'm looking to see when a new realm would be opened but i couldnt find any news on it.

so i post this question: "how often does blizzard make new realms?"

also how would i know if blizz plans to open a new realm or what date would that new realm become live?

or perhaps if possible foretell when a new realm is going to open?

help greatly appreciated :)

well blizz will tell you on they site that a new realm is opening prob a week befor it goes up or even a month but the chance there being a new realm for cata is very slim as there countless low realms and normal realms that need to be full befor they start thinking about making a new realm

This... there are dying servers out there. If anything, Blizzard needs to merge some servers together.

I really dont care if a new server opens anymore, after they stated that stuff like the AQ gate event wont happen on any future new servers I gave up all hope, my very inactive warrior has the Scepter and would just need to complete the quest Bang a Gong for my title and mount :(

what about the probability of a new one before cata?

i remembered prior to release of 3.0 to 3.1 (when i quit) new realms sprung up almost weekly.
