Okay seriously, what exactly is the usefulness of
this
? I'm guessing that with the T10 bonus it could be a DPS increase, but the glyph has been around longer than T10, right? What was the purpose of it when Mirror Image was just an aggro mask?

Yeah, like they're saying, it's a PvP glyph, but not a very good one.
Advanced PvPer's will have a UI add-on that highlights the name of the real mage in a different color than any of his mirrors; that's how I deal with mirrors against enemy mages.
However, against gnubs and those without add-ons that perform this function, it used to be ridiculously effective in BG's as an Arc mage to go invis right after throwing mirrors. Even the more skillful players you'll encounter who don't have an add-on distinguishing the mirrors will be greatly confused.Observant foes will have noted that mages throw 3 mirrors when they cast the spell (especially since the glyph has never been popular). They see 4, and they think they can still see you. There's such an element of surprise, I assume that some of the people I fooled did have a UI add-on, and simply took an extra moment scrolling through all my mirrors to realize none was shaded a different color- that I was, in fact, invisible.
Yeah, the throw mirrors and go invis trick is one of the earliest tricks you learn as a mage (like casting invis immediately out of an ice block with 6 enemies standing around salivating...omg, that's deliriously fun when you pull it off).
