Thinking about dropping Tailoring for Skinning
Return to board index
Hi there. I'm just asking for advice on what people think is the better option for making gold.
I currently have two 80's, one has 450/450 Herb/Alch, the other has 440 tailoring and 450 Mining.
I make decent change with the Herb/Alch, and I also make decent change with the Mining. The tailoring on the other hand, not so much.
Would it be better to drop tailoring and go with all 3 gather professions to make gold. I'm on a medium pop server.
Just looking for advice here. Thanks in advance.
I made an effort to pick up two rep patterns on my tailor. One was the large herb bag from Silithus and the other was the even larger herb bag from Sporegger. I can make 2-3 of the smaller bags using 1-2 hours of farming and easily get 50g for each bag. The larger bag requires 3-4 hours of farming and easily gets 275-300g. I find that I can usually sell as many of both as I can stand farming for and only bother making a bunch of them when I have a particular need for gold.
Attempting to make gold using recipes that everyone else has is a fruitless effort. If you do find someone willing to buy it from you, you'll have to compete with dozens of other tailors with the same pattern.
With that said, farming mats and selling them will nearly always beat selling of craft goods with very few exceptions. In 5 minutes I can farm a stack of knothide and sell it for 25g, which beats anything my tailor can do.
However my priest is a tailor to be able to create BOP gear for himself, rather than creating craft goods to sell. I have farming toons who exist primarily for farming and other toons who exist primarily for their craft goods. The farmers have no need for uber gear and super rep, while the main toons require more playtime and effort for rep and gear. For me, creating an alt is to fill a need rather than due to being bored with my other toons.
I think you need to read Wildhorn's guide.
I wouldn't drop a 440 crafting profession for a mediocre farming profession, personally. But that's just me. You have to decide what is the priority for you.
I do think tailoring has better potential to make gold than skinning, but you just need to find the items that will have the most profit potential.
