Thread derailment you say? Well you're certainly the bearer of wonderful news aren't you? Next you'll be telling me people will start arguing in this thread as well.

It's called a thread for a reason. One post leads to another, but if you look back you will see a thread running through them all, usually in the form of a coherent chain. Open discussion is open discussion: that's not something that can or should be changed.
Secondly, you can't have any discussion without first principles. Until the two people participating in a conversation reach some common ground, there can be no fruitful discussion. That's why a great many debates ultimately fall back to morality, religion, and basic beliefs -- understanding those is prerequisite to almost any debate.
Thirdly, if something is said in a thread in relation to the topic, it becomes on topic. So if someone says "I'd take advantage of girls" in relation to turning invisible, that becomes something that's on topic.
I think I've covered everything. There are of course things like
Red mage
which are derailments, but I don't think that's what you're referring to.

There's a different between a thread taking a turn and a thread being derailed.
If a thread takes an interesting turn, that's fine
. If a thread is derailed, that's different - the thread is broken, useless, and locked, because no one can stay on topic.
And who decides interesting? Obviously the people taking part in your 'derailment' find it interesting. Is it bad just because
you
find it uninteresting?
Also, why are you under the impression that a thread can only have one topic at a time? I've seen plenty of threads have 4-5 things going on at the same time. It's a lot more fun and productive.

There's a difference between "Let's take this debate in a new direction," "HAY GUYS LETZ COMPLEETELY CHAYNGE TOPIX INSTED OF STRTNG NW THREDZ," and "they see me trollin..."
Well, now that you've changed your definition of derailment, you're wrong in saying 90% of Wowhead's threads are derailed, and you're also wrong in saying that it's usually I (and I don't think victoryoordeath is guilty of a single such infraction).
