I'd like to get a good idea on how much gold I'd need to get Alchemy up to 400 from scratch without Herbalism. Just a rough estimate would do.
For example, Engineering costs me less than 1~1.5k to get all the way to around 400.
JC on the other hand cost me roughly 3-4k depending on the week.
I know its based on server, timing, etc, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah, but any figure would do.
Thanks.

I tried to do my alch through the AH, but found most herbs not available on my server or the prices were outlandish. I added herbalism to my lvl 80 hunter alt and it went really fast. Pet took care of mobs while I was able to farm the herbs.

If I remember right it cost me 1700g to power lvl it. I had a low lvl alt that had those herbs so that helped with the cost. Its the herbs that are in the middle range that are going to get you, some selling for 60g a stack. Also buying Frost Locus wasn't that cheap ether.
Some advice to take buy the herbs over a period of a few days to save some money. Also having adds like Auctionire (sp) and Lil Sparks help give a price range on what they sell for.

Yeah you guys are right, the mid level herbs are just completely missing on the AH. I guess I'll pickup herb to get the herbs up until BC, then once I get enough for WotLK potions I'll switch profs. I remembered skilling herb to be pretty fast I think, basically barrens -> STV -> Ungoro/Wintergrasp -> Marsh in Outlands.
