Be careful who you kick...

Other times, we have words. If you aren't fail, the instance is breezed through, and me and my friend are
still immature jerks who just aren't revealed in that particular instance.
There, fixed that for you.
If you don't think someone is pulling their weight, vote them out. The moment that you start name-calling - which you stated in your original post your friend does, regularly - you're rude, plain and simple. And you intentionally wiping the group because someone called your friend on being rude tags on the "immature" part.

I guess I'm missing the point. We shouldn't kick because we might be losing an elite player? Or we shouldn't kick because the kickee might have a friend in the group who will also leave? Neither one is compelling.
While I have built up a good tolerance for idiots in /lfd, I can't blame anyone for voting to kick a rude or bad player. There are so many of them that it can really try your patience. There's something about the /lfd system that makes people even more rude and bad than they otherwise would be.
My favorites are the Death Knub tanks. I was playing my Priest in a /lfd pug, and this DK tank wiped the group three times, then after the last boss was killed gave us a "F you all" before leaving. For the life of me I can't imagine what was going through his head.
So, if I think I might have a guy like that on my hands after the first pull or two, it might sometimes be best to abandon the group and wait the 15 minutes or so for a new one. (The longer the instance the less tolerance one should have for time-wasting ignorance.)

People should take a close look at the realms and guild affiliation of those you random LFD with, or at least talk things out before you kick people. I play a Paladin Tank, and I often group with my guild leader playing his alts. My guild leader has quite a mouth on him, and being the hardcore raider he is has little tolerance for people pulling stupid crap in heroics. He gets kicked a lot, and I tend to take it badly. Pull, Bubble, exit, and watch everyone else wipe.
Be careful who you casually kick...
So as I understand it, you're saying if I were to kick your guild leader I should kick you too as you're also a prat?

because he's a RL friend
I think you might need to reevaluate the meaning of "friend" if he expects you to back him when he is a complete jerk. You yourself said:
..., I do realize he's an ass.
It doesn't bother me that he's a jerk, since most of the time he only is so when it is warranted.
"Most of the time" means he's just a jerk some of the time; the rest of the time he has an excuse. Still a jerk.
Of course, I think you are too, especially for making a post telling us how elite jerks should be treated like they are special snowflakes.

Its funny how the OP changed his tone on the matter and is trying to make himself tlook like a good guy now, youre still a ass and your friend is a bigger one, neither of you seem enjoyable to play with. Both of you sound like you were carried through at the start to get any good gear also. The other day i had a overgeared shammy healer complain how he gets scrub 80s when he queues, I tell him thats what happens when youre so geared heroics are a breeze, he continues to bash 2 DPSers for there 1.5k dps I tell him to cool it and he tells me to just go back to tanking, I vote kick him and he laughs and says have fun waiting in queue, I say dont worry I already have some ready to come in, needless to say he starts whining and crying because we already have a back up and will be ok without him

So basically you're saying that you'll wipe a group because your friend was kicked for being an ass and wiping the group is okay and doesn't make you an ass? Would you bomb a police station if your friend was arrested? Fail troll imho.

My guild leader is a hardcore raider, and he's dragging me into raiding. I'm basically in his guild because he's a RL friend, who is a player in my weekly D&D game. So far, I've done ToC 10/25 a few times and am doing my first ICC run this week.
As for grouping with him, I do realize he's an ass. He is a friend though, both in and out of the game. If I don't back him, I have to deal with him in RL, and he gives me candy in the game, like when he sets up a ToC 10 run with me as off tank and no Paladin healer so I get to roll on Tanking gear and also get all the spellpower plate.
To be honest, I've actually been asking him to tone it down, as he's destroyed some groups we could have finished the instance with.
That being said, I've had enough bad experiences with LFD that I have almost no tolerance for crap anymore.
I do have a vindictive streak, which I have detailed somewhat. It doesn't bother me that he's a jerk, since most of the time he only is so when it is warranted. Most of the time, we just get through the instance peacefully. In the future, I plan on asking him to let me establish my authority as tank and remind people of the wait they'll have if I leave, and that me and him are a package deal. If he goes, I go.
As far as I'm concerned, if you kick him, you just ruined my instance. Due to frienship and practical reasons, my participation in the instance has just ended, and everyone has just bought themselves 10+ minutes of waiting for a new tank. I don't always grief people for this. Most of the time, I just exit the dungeon and wait until they kick me as well. Only when they are real jerks about kicking my friend to I cause wipes, which I would say is only 25% of the time.
As for some of the technical issues, in a 5 man group you only need 3 votes to kick someone. I don't vote to kick them, and if he can be kicked as much as he is, they only need 3 votes. As for bubble/wipe, you can't teleport out when you're in combat, but bubble drops aggro and the time it takes for the mobs to kill the rest of the party is all the head start I need to run to the entrance and get out alive.
I don't go looking for this, and I don't start this. I have had enough negative experiences with random heroics that I don't put up with crap anymore. If people can't behave as they should in an instance, my participation ends until they can behave themselves. I'm a Tank, and I can join groups in 5 seconds. Bad groups aren't worth my time.
You are a bad tank.
