3k? Really? Is this a different gearscore formula than the one used at wow-heroes.com? Because I've seen people faceroll heroics in no time at all with a gearscore of like 2.5k
I know people like to call guys like the OP elitists, but frankly if you need 3k gearscore to farm heroics quickly, you aren't elite by any definition of the word. Elite is a matter of skill. Soloing equal-level (or close) elites in your 60s or 70s is elite. Demanding gearscore checks before setting foot in Gundrak just tells me that you're a scrub who probably bought his account and wouldn't know skill if it snuck up and bit you.

The way I look at it is this....If I am using the LFD system, I am expecting a PUG group to be formed. As with all PUG groups, you get what you get. Make the best of it and move on. I will NEVER kick a person for low DPS. If it takes a few more minutes to get through the instance so be it. If I get a request to kick someone, I will make a point to mention that if they go, I go. I am the tank and it will take you longer to find a new tank than it would be to carry the person through the instance. I hate all this elitist crap!

People fail to realize that the LFD system gear-checks FOR YOU. It won't let you into heroics until your gear is capable of it. If you want to put together a badge farming group, go ahead and do it: gather 4 friends and queue up. I've done this before. I started doing it with my priest because I was tired of bad tanks.
Etiquette-wise, when you sign up for randoms with 4 random people, you ought to give them the benefit of the doubt. If they're causing wipes on trash or something like that, then by all means kick them. If YOU are causing the wipes by pulling aggro off of a new-80 tank, then you are the problem. Learn to play the game; it's cooperative. Work WITH people, not around them.

When I started running heroics back two months after Wrath release, it was in roughly 150-187 ilvl gear and the dps were lucky to be pulling more than 1.2k (except for those magical ret paladins.) You don't need epics to run heroics effectively. Blues are nice, but not necessary.
Maybe there should be less emphasis on grinding as many heroics as possible in a space of time and more on having fun running them.

Seen a few people say DPS is easy to carry (which it is, no argument from me).
But y'know, a geared group can carry a tank if they've got a few braincells between them.
LFD gave me (fury warrior well overgeared) hc VH yesterday. The hunter, warlock and priest were all similarly geared to me, and the druid tank was rockin' 27k fully buffed hp in bear form. I inspect him (I suspect we all did, tbh) and he's got an interesting mix of tank and cat gear (quest greens and blues, not a single heroic drop that I could see).
No one said anything, we started the instance...and I didn't even have to tone down my DPS. I waited an extra couple of seconds longer than normal before charging in, but it wasn't really necessary. His threat generation and actual tanking skills were so good I armouried him after the run,
positive
he was a veteran player just messing about in crappy gear. Armoury didn't support the theory. After about 3 pulls the healer suddenly woke up.
Healer: wtf? 27k hp?
Me: he holds aggro like a pro, who cares what his hp is? ;)
Healer: um me, snce im healing
Me: please, you can do heroics with 19k and no probs
Healer: yeah, sure you can
Me: rofl. How do you think we were doing them a year ago?
By this time we'd gotten to the first boss (Ichoron) and the healer decides he's had enough of me (le sigh) and drops group. A healadin joined almost immediately, but couldn't get in while we were fighting. It cost mine and the tank's lives (impressive aggro-tennis from the hunter and lock on opposite sides of the room), but we made it. Pally gets in, resses, we get rebuffed, wait for the next portal.
Pally: Woah! 27k hp?
Me: (thinking - here we go again)
Pally: Nice! I'll have to stay awake for this one! :D
Now, that was the best run I've had with a tank who was so far under the gear levels of his group, and it just proves it's perfectly possible for a sensible group to work with an undergeared tank. I had one eye glued to Omen for the entire run and the hunter and lock were making regular use of their threat dumps, and...omg u'll nevah beleeeeve it! Teh tnak uzed a skull and we all atakkd teh skull b4 we did our AOE!11!one!
Even with the deaths and the slightly cautious DPS it was still only about a 23 min run and that druid was
stoked
we'd checked his gear, found it lacking, and stuck with him and praised his skills.
TLDR - moral of the story; give 'em a chance before you vote that kick, people can surprise you.

Personally when I'm healing heroics I love undergeared tanks....or overgeared tanks who know how to really chain pull for some fun...when I have geared tanks who slowly methodically work through an instance I just keep Sacred shield and my hot on them and dps..while trying to stay awake.
Anyhow, if you aren't geared enough for heroics the LFD system will not even allow you to que for them. And by not geared for heroics that means that their gear would have been considered plenty for heroics not long after Wrath's release. Which is fine. That's what they are there for. ToC and the ICC 5 mans all have higher gear requirements as well, the only way you'll get somebody w/ lower gear in those is if they specifically que for them. I've geared up a few guildies alts over the past couple of weeks and this proved true for all of them.
and seriously....people don't just ding 80 with full t9 like many seem to expect. It's not like running the heroics with a low dps or something will be the end of the world, it may add 5 minutes to the run. As mentioned before if you take 2 minutes and try to help them out, alot of times they will improve by quite a bit.
@cosmic
heh that sounds about how my first few runs w/ my druid went :p

I made a post on the wow forums about this.
while I don't mind carrying 1 or 2 under geared person(s).. I do see a problem if said person doesn't know their class, or know said Instance on Heroic.
My thought was, people need to at least have run the instance on Normal mode before being allowed into Heroic. Sort of like getting Keyed for it.
Doing so will give better gear (for having run it on normal) and experience on the dungeon itself (and also their class).

I've got 5300GS and get grouped with DPS that are pushing a 4600GS. I pull more DPS than them as the tank.
Being as i can do that, so what if an undergeared player joins the group? I can keep aggro well enough that the healer won't need to heal the others, taking little to any damage (unless magic) myself and do a considerable amount of DPS in doing so.
Hell, I'm carrying the healer.
Wait, how is it even possible to have 5300 GS? I'm looking at WoW Heroes, and the highest person on my server is 3182. They're decked out in 264 gear.

Gear Score addon
and
WoW-Heroes
are not the same thing. Please stop confusing them.
The only time I've wanted to kick someone was when a lock was pulling 800dps in H HoL. The only reason he was in that PuG was because he was in a group with the tank and they joined together.

Ah, I see. Whenever my guild talks about Gear Scores, we're talking about the WoW Heroes gear score. Seems confusing and unnecessary to have two different systems.

Looks like the masses have spoke- OP is in the minority. The equation I see is this:
A well- geared DPS in heroics should be able to pull 4.5-6k DPS when doing a good job. That's equivalent to 3 undergeared DPS who are still able to clear the heroic. The only reason that having additional DPS perform over 3k is necessary is:
A) You are well geared, but aren't able to pull the above DPS
or
B) You don't want to do a good job, just want to kind of run through and faceroll it without paying attention.
Sounds like the only one who wants to get carried is you.
New players might not have the gear or the know-how to pull top DPS, but heroics are exactly where they should be to get both. Running heroics and complaining that there are new 80's in there, is the same as running Blackwing Lair for the achievement and complaining if someone brings a level 65. If you have something u need from lower level content, don't be suprised to find lower levels of gear. Being new =/= being lazy.
As long as the tank can hold a reasonable amount of aggro, the healer keeps up with the damage, and the enemies die, everyone is doing their job. If it takes 3 extra minutes to finish the damage because you are not all in ICC 25 gear, then big deal- I guarantee you're on for hours and it's not that big a percentage of your time.
In short- get over yourself- ur not actually that big a deal. It's a game.
