Michael Jackson Just Passed Away?

While MJ's death is certainly tragic, it is unfortunate that his death will be remembered today above Farrah Fawcett's. Despite her talent, she did not have the fame of Michael Jackson. It reminds me of Mother Theresa's death: she was well-known and her passing was sad, but overshadowed because it took place on the day of Princess Diana's tragic accident.

Yes, he did give himself a reputation over the last two decades, but it's rude to make fun of ANYONE,
famous or not
, after they die. When someone dies, you should reminisce on the good memories and put aside the bad ones. To anyone who is making fun of Michael Jackson, or even Farrah Fawcett, shame on you; you should be ashamed of yourself. If you or your account suffers repercussions, you deserve it in my opinion. I disagree. Death doesn't change my opinion of people. I don't remember the good and set aside the bad. My grandfather died recently. He was a real slime ball. He knew it. I knew it. My wife at the time was pregnant. He was on deaths door, and I asked him how he would like to be remembered. He said to ' Tell the truth'. So: My dead grandfather was a slimeball in life. A real scum. There you go. I don't think Micheal Jackson had much sanity in him. Death does not obliterate this fact.I realize that humor is the medication that keeps everyone sane, but when somebody dies you need to be careful of whom you share your sense of humor around. Some people are completely sensitive to those jokes; anyone who deliberately makes insensitive jokes around a person that doesn't enjoy them deserves a kick in the groin. No and no. Is it impolite? Yes. Would I do it? No. However, the people who overreact to the jokes are equally as annoying as the people who made them.
The really incredible thing is the reaction coming out of people. This was Michael Jackson people... not your mother. Who cares if people make fun of his plastic surgery. Why do you find it personally offensive? Grow up. Ignore them. Move on. People have better things to do with thier time than worry about a dead singer.

Death itself is good and bad and sad and happy? Please explain.
Parallel emotions are not new.
I'm not questioning that. I'm questioning whether death is an instance that introduces these emotions.

I do agree with MyTie, in that we shouldn't change our opinions on people because they died and we have to honor them. While he was alive, I thought the man was weird as $%^& (although I do not believe he molested anyone), made some bad decisions (like dangling a baby off a balcony, for example), but I respected him as a musician and realized that a lack of a normal life probably led to his...eccentricities, to put it nicely. Similarly, going back to the example of Steve Irwin's death, I respected him for his courage and toughness, but I also thought he probably wasn't the smartest person and a bit crazy.
TL;DR: While people's deaths are tragic we shouldn't put them in a positive light and pretend they were perfect.

Murder is a sad thing. However, death itself is neither sad nor happy, and neither good nor bad.
Keep your philosophical pish-posh if you wish, but I fail to see anything positive about the death of a legend.

Dually noted. I realize that Michael Jackson gave himself a bad reputation, and that it's his own fault, but it's rude to just remember someone for the bad things they did when they also did good things. Michael wasn't just known as the alleged child molester; he also supported charities that raised funds against drug and alcohol abuse, and to help fight famine in places like Africa. That doesn't absolve him any bad things he did, but it's just rude to remember him for THAT (the bad things).
and I'm also not saying that you should remember someone for the good things forever, but just temporarily as a sign of respect to the family.
No and no. Is it impolite? Yes. Would I do it? No. However, the people who overreact to the jokes are equally as annoying as the people who made them.
If people didn't make the bad jokes, others wouldn't react.

The jokes don't offend me. I just find it rude that people are already making fun of him when he just recently died. And, trust me, if this was an ordinary person who wasn't famous, I'd be saying the same thing.

Look a little deeper Ivokk. Death itself is not what stirs these emotions. The loss of a loved one makes people sad. Remembering the time you spent with them makes you happy. The implication that you will also someday change makes you fearful. But the act of death itself is neither positive nor negative. It is a neutral change. The associtated human events are what are sad/happy.

If people didn't make the bad jokes, others wouldn't react.Do not make the mistake of attributing one person's actions to another person.I don't find it offensive—it's not my problem, and it was HIS choice. But it's rude for people to make fun of a person who just died. I would be saying the same thing if this was a ordinary person who wasn't famous. Why do you care? The dead person is not offended. So why is it a big deal to you?

I'm not trying to say that everyone should be sad when someone dies. Every person on this planet is going have at least one person who doesn't like them, and that's especially inevitable when you're a famous person such as Farrah Fawcett or Michael Jackson.
What I am trying to say is that you should remember that when someone dies, their family and friends are going to be mourning the loss. I find it rude when people make callous jokes because you never know if the dead person's family might see or hear the insensitive jokes and gets offended.
If someone true and dear to your heart died, would you like it if every person in the world was making fun of him? Even if this was a person who might have done bad things in their life?
That's the thing about victims, the families of victims, and the families of dead people: You don't really think about them until you go through the situation yourself. (Victim does not necessarily apply to MJ)

I don't care. Most of the people I find dear are treated very harshly by society for thier beliefs. If they were treated harshly in death, I would smile, and think to myself how it never bothered them, so it shouldn't bother me.
Michael Jackson was defined by what people thought about him. That's it. He was an entertainer. So, to have a public negative opinion of him is really an attack on what he stood for. Sad, to base your entire life on other people's opinions. Look what it turned him into. If you learned anything from Michael Jackson, you should have learned to ignore other's irrelevant opinions.
