ok, let's be a little level headed here.
conflag was really very good. we've all been making comments here over the past month saying it's a bit too good and we hope it doesn't get nerfed. "too OP" is a subjective idea but honestly none of us should be surprised that it got nerfed. all the people saying things like "all they EVER do is nerf locks" need to calm down.
the problem here is that this change made it live and got hotfixed within hours. it had been on the ptr for a long time and the change went live just long enough for me (and i'm sure many others) to use my free respec to take a conflag build. if it had been changed a week before the end of the ptr we could've run simcraft parses with the change and got our heads round it a bit.
...i just wonder what blizzard learned in those first few hours after the patch went live that they didn't learn from the ptr. now, clearly they learned
something
- conspiracy theorists who think blizz hate locks are very foolish - but i wonder what it was and i wonder how they didn't come by that information during the testing phase.

But then again, this is the same development team that let burst go unchecked in PvP for literally MONTHS of testing when people in Beta were repeating over and over again how everyone was doing too much damage in too little time, etc. It makes you wonder if they even listen to the feedback from the PTR realms for anything other than bugs.

For those that are now wondering (as I was) what this means for 40/31 DPS I'm posting the
latest simcraft numbers from EJ
.
6990 - Deep Affliction + Doomguard
6837 - FG/Ember
6733 - Meta + Suppression
6679 - Deep Affliction
6625 - Meta + Demonic Pact
6563 - Decimation/Conflag (40/31)
6308 - Deep Destro
Looks like I'll be re-speccing again.
/sigh

yes,
but
.
the 40/31 (that we all thought was a bit ugly) is still well within the tolerances for "viable". the specs are still an awful lot closer than 3.0.9 so this nerf, if it fixes the problem in PvP, is annoying but fine. my only serious complaint is the way it was done.
i wonder if we could have a moritorium on all the talk of rerolling? perhaps we could save all that for
actual
game breaking issues.

Well FG/Ember is about a 4.2% DPS increase over the nerfed 40/31 spec, so I'll willingly pay the 50g respec cost for that amount of extra damage.
Especially as the AH on my realm hadn't yet seen any of the new glyphs (conflag, etc.) so no gold lost there.

GoConflag isn't new... is it? i spent so much time on the ptr that i'd get annoyed on live to find my buttons in different places etc.
it all got very confusing O.o
well, anyway, you're absolutely right and i'll be doing exactly the same thing but then we're min/maxers. i suppose my point is that if a warlock wants to join my raid using deep destro or 40/31, skill/playstyle will still be easily the biggest factor. i'm just loving how far warlocks have come since tBC (aff up to T5 then destro and NO other options).
this change has actually brought me round to irharry's way of thinking. along with a recent change to my raids make-up (losing our regular ele shaman) deep demo is actually not far behind but comes with some fairly large benefits.
so, yes, this was a frustrating change but moving on we're in an incredibly good position with so many options. overall, i think it's really good to be a warlock at the moment.

My issue is along the lines that asakawa is running.
Although I probably don't have to explain it to you I will. 30% is quite substantial.
The new version does 30% less damage or the old version did 43% more damage (almost half).
If any class that received a 43% increase to one of their spells overnight they couldn't complain, that's the kind of buffs that dreams are made of. It's much larger than anyone would ever expect and certainly far less gradual. The point that I'm trying to make is that kind of change is a big deal, especially if it is to a core spell.
They have this on the ptr for 2 months(roughly) and within two days decide that it needs a 30% nerf.
WHAT DO THEY DO ON THE PTR ?
Toons have similar gear, the game is the same as the patch (in this case anyway) and they can't decide within that timeframe? And have to HOTFIX it when we have been putting up with rediculous bursts for months.
My suggestion is not to get people happy and then tear them down. It makes them angry.

Now you mention it, no, I don't think it is.
It's the first time I've been that deep in Destro since Wrath launched so I've never looked for it before.
Just saw there were none on the AH and assumed...
Guess it was everyone else who specced 40/31 quicker than me :P

Tell me about it!
Now that the full version of Carbonite is free thanks to the Blizz addon rules changes I gave it a try and I like it a lot, however it has prompted a complete reworking of my UI.
Do you know of any action bar addon that can quickly change bars and keybinds to cope with dual-spec?
well, anyway, you're absolutely right and i'll be doing exactly the same thing but then we're min/maxers. i suppose my point is that if a warlock wants to join my raid using deep destro or 40/31, skill/playstyle will still be easily the biggest factor. i'm just loving how far warlocks have come since tBC (aff up to T5 then destro and NO other options).
Yeah, if I have PuG slots to fill in a raid the indicator I put most faith in are the achievements/stats on the Armory that show they know the fight and not which spec they're using (particularly for classes and specs that I don't know well).

I'm a confirmed altoholic and have a toon of every class, but I'm still enjoying my 'lock as much as any of the others at the moment.

edit: @adnihilo92
not really.
i didn't go on the ptr in the last few days of testing but the last time i did it was still doing the higher damage. this was a hotfix after the patch went live but the hotfix isn't reflected in the tooltip yet. GC's point is -
we changed it but you wouldn't notice without testing because the tooltip is still the same so i'm telling you now so you don't feel we tried to sneak it by you
edit: i was using dominos on the ptr (as i do on live) and when i changed specs using the dual spec feature it would handle the actionbar and keybind changes perfectly well.
i'm not sure if other action bar addons (bartender etc) are struggling with this but i know dominos is essentially an addon which alters the look and layout of the blizzard actionbars rather than one which creates new ones so this may help.
i'm also, not an altaholic exactly, but i have 3 well geared level 80s which receive similar amounts of my time and i'm levelling a new pally. all my account slots are filled and none of the characters is below level 30...
...i think i should probably just admit to altaholic status.

The tooltip may still say 100%, so we didn't want this to feel like a stealth nerf.
This means that they allready nerfed it before they made the patch live, but without telling us..
Redicoulous
No, it means the exact opposite.
If it was fixed before the patch went live then they would have been able to update the tooltip.
As it is they have hotfixed the server-side code to only do 70% damage, but without pushing out another patch they can't update client code to display the correct value in the tooltip.

ah, that's a much better way of putting it. ignore my reply and read WTC's ^_^
