A friend of Mine (a rouge) Told me that having 8% Hit is like cap for heroics and all that jazz, but ive been sportin 6.2% and ditched my crappy shoulders with more hit on em for the Hodir ones and my Hit is at 5% or so now. In Instatnces i do like 2.3-2.4k Dps and 10 man buffed nax im doin 2.8-3k. Is Hit rating That imporant to Ret pallies or no?

Hit is important, yes, and your friend is correct about the cap for melee. Whether it is more useful to you than other stats at your gear level is uncertain.
I'm sure one of our local rets can provide a dps spreadsheet link.

Your friend is correct that hit is important but one of you has the specifics slightly wrong.
Your special attacks have an 8% miss chance against raid bosses only. In non-raid instances the highest level target you will find is level 82 against which your special attacks have a 5.4% miss chance.

Increasing your hit chance by 1% will give you at least 1% more damage so yes, it is important. You'll have to decide if the 99 hit rating you would need to get from +5% to +8% hit is more valuable than whatever other stats you would be giving up to get it.

Yes, hit rating is important. Hit cap is 8% (263 Hit Rating) against Raid Bosses (down from 9% in BC). At 8% you will never miss (dodge, parry & blocked attacks deal with expertise) and point for point Hit Rating will give you the most DPS over any other stat.

This isn't true for Ret, it has been shown through formulas that Strength will always, always, give more DPS than hit. I'm not saying neglect hit though.
Please post where you saw these formulas. That will help answer alot of questions. I still stick firm that until hit capped, you should be gemming for hit as a "miss" does no dps.

Hit
32.8 rating gives you 1% hit. At level 80, we require 263 hit rating, or 8%, to be hit capped on white swings, specials, and judgements. Note that Exorcism and Consecration are considered spells and use the spell hit table, thus we can still miss with these abilities. You want to be hit capped to maximize (and stabilize) your DPS, but any hit after the cap is wasted itemization points, so gear accordingly. Please note that with current gear itemization, hit capping is very difficult and it is generally better to have a healthy balance of stats. Generally you should not gem/enchant for hit
EJ is saying that you still need to be at cap but that you shouldn't gem or enchant for hit...

This is a perfect example of misinformed individuals simply not reading the OVER 9000 posts on this topic week-in, week-out.
Facts for Ret Paladins:
- Hit cap is 8%, and 7% if you have a Draenei.
- Reaching said hit cap DOES NOT matter and SHOULD NOT come at the expense of gemming/enchanting/gear for as much strength as you can.
- Our BiS gear will not reach the hit cap -- and that's fine.
Hit Rating, while not completely irrelevant, is just something I don't even put a thought to. Hitting really, really, really hard is paramount, even if we happen to miss 3-4% of the time (which is usually the case.)
You'll get some hit rating from gear you would want anyways. That's good. And that's all you need.

This, this, and this.
^&*! hit. Like an overly-clingy girlfriend: it'll always be there, even when you wish you had something else (bad analogy?). What you want is Strength. Regardless of how much hit you have, X hit will always be inferior to X Strength. Always.
So go. Stack Strength, miss 5% of your attacks, and hit really &*!@in' hard.
