I agree, Jame's leveling guide is one of, if not the BEST free guide there is. Haven't tried it with the addon version but I'm guessing that just speeds it up more. I used to always dual-monitor with the guide up on my 2nd screen.

lvling still not fun with it though.
speeding it up and thus reducing the time you have to stand the horror that lvling is, that it does extremly well

That's simply a matter of taste, I don't mind 1 - 60, because of the scenery. But Outland is something I'm starting to dislike more and more.
me too now i hate 1-60 and soon i will hate 1-70 :)

Yeah I'm not sure the guides make it more fun. If you're levelling without the guides and still allow yourself to become absorbed into the game/quests/lore, you're probably having a great time levelling, whatever the pace.
For me personally, the guides discouraged me from actually reading the quests, and I rather just did exactly what the guide told me to do (which leaves out all the story and character of the game).
In saying that, I still much prefer to use the guides. They make levelling a character FLY by. I tried levelling close to 10 characters but got bored on every single one (long before reaching end-game), when I finally rolled a Shaman and used the guides from the start. I was 70 (TBC era) in no time at all. I couldn't believe how quickly I'd gotten there.
Edit: Grammar and clarity.

Never used any type of guide and basically ended up exploring around for a long time finding areas and looking for quests, but I was the first of my friends irl to join WoW and could help them when they joined. Sadly, this resulted in me taking months (seriously, like 2 months) just to get to level 60. Now for WotLK, I'm going to try to grind through levels so fast that I'm expecting at least 1 level a day. I still refuse to use guides though, lol. Plus I figure I'll be able to play in July and by that time, the next expansion will practically be out already.

I don't understand the whole leveling guide thing. Leveling isn't hard. Just do quests. You don't need a guide to tell you what to do.
In general, leveling is just what you said. But some people want to do it fast and that's when leveling guides step in. When you're leveling in new areas and doing quests you're not familiar with, I bet you can't level as efficiently as you could with a leveling guide. Reading quest descriptions takes time and that's what you want to save by using a leveling guide.
levelling guide or some addon like tom tom, who will guide you to quest :) so you dont have to read something or swap between wow and IE
