Mouse-turning

I would love to hear a good explanation of how to move in PvP using mainly the mouse. Most people say mouse-turning and using keybindings instead of clicking actionbars is the only way to do it but I am having some trouble with this. I am so used to using QWEASD buttons, which i can use to manouvre around pretty well, including strafing backwards which I find useful often. But sometimes I meet people who just run rings around me and I can tell they are doing something different. I haven't PvPed much as a caster before, I play a Moonkin so I need to learn to kite effectively, especially want to get Typhoon-punting off cliffs right. :D
So, what do you do when you meet e.g. a melee player and you have to get away but also cast spells that require you to face them? Do you literally just turn in a circle with the mouse? I find I can't get a tight enough circle this way. Or a figure eight? This seems to work although I end up with the camera angle looking from directly above! Or do you use both mouse and QWEASD buttons? Surely even mouse-turning pros sometimes actually need to strafe or backstep? I have also tried doing a quick 180 degree turn by turning the camera angle to face backwards, holding down left button as I run with W for a few seconds, click right button aswell to face back, cast spell, then repeat to end up facing and running forward again. Although I often end up doing it a bit wrong and running off in a random direction, lol.
I can't help thinking there's some technique or UI setting that I've overlooked.

The absolute best way to control your character and it's actions is whatever you are most comfortable and familiar with. That being said, if you're having trouble maneuvering in PvP, then you might want to tweak your method a bit. Personally I do fine with a combination mousing and key bindings both to move and use actions. Don't be afraid to mess around with different methods, but don't get pressured into thinking that you have to do things one way or another...
