Checking in.
And I pretty much don't like anything that's done in the Final Fantasy art style. Nothing against the games themselves, or the people who like them, but I just can't get into anything with that much spiky hair and androgynous teenagers.
If it makes you feel any better, I don't like the testosterone chugging Space Marine genre either (I don't count Mass Effect; even though he's a space marine, his head is larger around than his biceps)

I'm actually thinking of picking that up, just because there are suppose to be some new things in it; I still have my copy of the PS1 game though, and it works just fine.

I don't have my PS1 copy anymore. =C
Looks like a new PC is the only really new thing. I don't count additional voice acting.

Unskippable version
of the starting cutscene of Star Ocean: The Last Hope.
To quote Yahtzee: "Why does is that boy wearing his knees outside his legs?"

I have a few games on the PS1 that would actually be worth some major coin if I actually was willing to sell them.

Pretty sure I've seen that before, but I'm definitely about to. The Second Story is a pretty good game. The different potential player characters can be slightly annoying, but it adds a layer of depth and replay value to the game.

Best special scene is still with
Celine
in the Fun Park, where she uses the perfume/love potion thing, and every male in the place chases her....then, when Rena finds her, get's hit by the potion as well and starts hitting on the Crest Sorceress; was laughing my ass off.

Devs! Fix this bug
Yeah, Celine is one of my favorite characters.
Also, I forgot how much one of the Unskippable guys sounds like someone I know...

Eh, Star Ocean just isn't my thing, I think. Don't really like JRPGs.

I actually liked Precis the best; the gadget genius was hilarious, and the stalker aspect to her relationship with Claude just made me chuckle.

Star Ocean 2 isn't your typical JRPG, in my book. But I'm not sure what exactly you dislike about them though.
Opera and Ernest are two more of my favorites. And the reluctant hero Ashton.

And really, before you can say anything about Star Ocean 2, play SO3: Till the End of the Time, you are looking at least an hour and half till the very first save point in the game.....yet, considering the hate that game get's, I just loved it, and it had one of the weirder twists in a video game.

I have Till the End of Time...somewhere.

Hey Pwntiff have you ever watched
EX?
If not, consider it; for 26 episodes, it's a fairly good anime.
And yeah, once I get around to picking up a PS3, next to FF13, SO4 is one of my top choices.

But I'm not sure what exactly you dislike about them though.Really, it's mainly the sacrifice of realism for stylism. Charaters never have realistic hairstyles, for example, it's always spiky and anime-esque. Most of them that I've experience don't have dialogue that sounds like something someone would actually say (although this may be attributed to the translators, I don't know), but rather seem forced and immersion breaking to me. Everything from their weapons (really big, complicated, elaborate gun/sword/whatever) to their outfits seems to favor stylism over realism. It seems like that's just one of the trends in Japan, because I see it all over, from RPGs like Final Fantasy and Star Ocean to fighting games like Soul Caliber and Street Fighter, to shows like Dragon Ball and Bleach. It's all about "Let's make this epic and fantastic and who cares if it seems like something that could actually happen."
Some people like that kind of thing, and that's totally fine, but it's just not my thing. For me, the most important thing in a video game is immersion into the story and setting, and spiky hair and giant sword and androgynous teenagers saving the world simply shatters my immersion.
Like I said, that's not to say "I like Western Games more than Japanese games." Silent Hill 2 was done masterfully, and Gears of War was no better than the JRPGs in terms of immersion (thanks to the space marines built like refrigerators).
I just prefer RPGs that are designed to be as realistic as possible. Like Mass Effect, for example. I love that game so very much.
Also, it's important to note that "realistic" to me does not mean "just like here on Earth", but rather "Makes sense in the given setting."
An orc can hold a massive mace because his muscles are larger than that of a human. It appears realistic. That does not break my immersion. A teenager holding a sword bigger than he is does not appear realistic, and it breaks my immersion.

When the RB died.. Something else died. Not just something, but a vital piece of us. All of us. When that thread died, a spark was lit. A spark that made us into a revolution-machine. But now that we've nothing to work towards... There's nothing.
It's hell.
A dark... dark, cold hell.
