fury buildings indeed does more dps than arms but it wont help much until you get at least the cap for yellow (special attacks) that is 190.
The big difference (besides dps boost with proper gear) is in gameplay style and skill rotation, but after some time you get used to it.
I was arms til 80 and noticed that even with some decent upgrades my dps wasnt as high as desired then respecced fury and i can say im very happy with my new spec. Im doing nice dps on heroics and fair on raids and grinding for rep has been alot easier ( a normal mob doesnt last more than 5 secs alive with victory rush>ww>bloodthirst combo).
You should read the sticky guides topics in the top of the forum for more deep analisys over the difference on the builds and other information that ur gonna like to know like hit rating caps, expertise caps etc.
for gear you can check maxdps.com to see where get upgrades (use the tool to load your chars info typing the realm - char name)

Right now, as long as you have even half-way decent gear (a combination of crafted and rep gear will suffice) for Fury it blows Arms out of the water on the DPS meters. Overall damage done, DPS, Damage per fight... It also scales better.
Thing is, a DPS build in Fury is completely different than a PvP build in Fury. In a DPS build you don't have many of the main skills that a PvP build should have; Enrage, Heroic Fury, Piercing Howl, and Furious Attacks are the main examples. Even Blood Craze is nice for PvP, but not generally present in any DPS build I've seen. They just don't contribute enough in PvE the vast majority of the time.

I found this to be a very good build for transitioning in to Fury from Prot:

It's a bit more forgiving on Rage generation than some other builds without sacrificing any of the most important buffs or DPS talents. It is, however, almost exclusively for PvE. You can do BGs in it and still be relatively effective, but you're missing the big PvP talents... honestly, I'd redistribute my points to pick up Furious Attacks, Piercing Howl, Enrage, and Heroic Fury if I was planning on PvPing for a bit, and respec back to the other build for PvE. Until dual-spec comes out, that is. In the meantime, I'd just eat the cost for the trade-off in effectiveness in either facet of the game.
Make sure you gear up accordingly. Soft hit cap is number one priority.

StrongHand, I think we'd need a bit more information to gauge normal...
What level are you?
Is your weapon skill maxed out for the weapons you're using?
What's your gear look like? (Most noticeably, Hit, Crit, Str/AP ratings.)
I can't check Armory links right now, even some of that information might be a bit more helpful.

StrongHand, BAD!
Just kidding, but look at this: hit 100.
That's killing you, man. 168 is the soft cap to remove miss from yellow attacks. Your rage generation is probably quite poor as well from white misses.
Honestly? My advice is this: You're level 80 now, it's time to let go of sentimental attachments to level 70 epics. ;) Start replacing that stuff with blues from Heroic instances or blues and epics from Rep rewards, and epics from Badges.
