So i'm starting to do Heroics and i've done Heroic UK, Nexus, & Pinnacle. Everytime it seem like i'm at the bottom of the DPS charts where my percentage is at 15-18% and my group members are at 20-25%. My bonus damage is at 1599, hit rating at: 130, crit chance at: 13.42%, haste rating is at 474. I am affliction warlock 56/0/15. And when people ask for my stats... what do i tell them?
My spell rotation is: shadow bolt, haunt, immolate, CoA, Corruption, and Sifon Life... then shadow bolts etc. til cool downs are ready.

Gotta say it -
Read the Stickies!
You will have these questions answered and learn alot more about the Warlock class.
Rotation seems alright, but your DPS problem is going to be in your extremely low HIT rating. Hit cap for casters is 446 or 17%. You can make this easier on yourself by putting points into the talents that give you a hit bonus (3% in affliction and 3% in destro). This is the first priority for all of your gear, CAP YOUR HIT.
Your spell power is low, but not a problem. That will grow as your gear improves.
Hit > Spell Power > Haste > Crit > Spirit
Again, please read the stickies...

One thing the OP didn't mention is UNSTABLE AFFLICTION in his rotation....seriously? Or did you just forget to write it down?
Whoops, I missed that too! Yea, UA is a must.
Just to correct you right away, hit rating in Heroics isn't as big a deal as in raids. High 100's I think would be fine for hit rating.
This is probably correct IF he is spec'd into his +hit talents. Best way to find out is to install the "Recount" addon and then run some heroics. See if you get alot of miss/resist on your main damage spells. If so then you need more +hit.

no, the best way to find out is to know 0 -- 96%
+ 1 -- 95%
+ 2 -- 94%
+ 3 -- 83%
and get enough hit accordingly

I know im not the OP but I'm not quite sure what you mean there asakawa...

it's the miss chance against different level mobs.
in heroics the highest mobs will be level 82, +2 levels meaning you have a 94% chance to hit.
in raids the highest mobs will be level 83, +3 levels meaning you have a 83% chance to hit.
if you know those 2 numbers then all you need to do is mouseover your hit rating in game and the tooltip will tell you your +hit percentage.
in heroics you need 6% (or 157). in raids you need 17% (or 456).

thanks for all the help. one question i havent seen answer is when people ask for your stats. what are you supposed to tell them? just tell them your spell power? thanks again for your help.

I personally tell people my build (Aff / Demo / Destro), my spell damage, and my self buffed DPS. You can find your DPS by using a damage mod (I use "Recount") and a practice dummy in a main city or just make note of how much you do in raid/instances.

So the “soft cap” for raiding locks is;
Alliance (talented) = 262 hit rating
Alliance (untalented) = 341 hit rating
Horde (talented) = 289 hit rating
Horde (untalented) = 368 hit rating
This is technically true isn't it? It's not really neccesary for you to try to get a 456 hit rating, correct?

The only reason you would need to get 446 hit rating on your own is if you weren't spec'd into any +hit talents and if you weren't running your raids with other classes that boost hit - which is HIGHLY unlikely.

For heroics, more +hit is NOT necessary.
The highest level mobs you will encounter in heroics is lvl 82, against which you have a 6% miss chance. You have enuogh +hit for this.
Your main problem is your spec. You are specced into the highest dps spec available to warlocks, but the problem is that your spec is not the highest dps spec for what you are specifically doing. You would do considerably more dps with 0/41/30, due to the simpler and quicker rotation, higher burst, and better 2-3 target aoe abilities.
The thing with deep aff builds is that it has the best damage available to locks - Seed of Corruption for aoe, and incredible single target damage.
Problem is though that SoC needs 4 or more targets to start to shine (you don't get explosion damage on the mob you place the actual seed on), and your single target dps will take several seconds to crank up.
0/41/30 is better for heroics, hands down. It picks up speed faster, Rain of fire is more friendly to smaller aoe mob dps, and the ability to dump 1/4 of your threat to your felguard means you can start dps immediately on the tank pulling. Its an all round win/win.
On top of this, without meaning to be rude at all, affliction takes skill, a lot more of it than any other spec. If you don't know the class intimately, chances are that you simply aren't going to get full mileage out of it.

Affliction can shine in hcs IF you have a nice tank. As a Tankadin fe. If you do it right SoC can be high dps even with 3 mobs.
I use this:
Method 1
CoA - Unstable on Skull, then spam SoC on skull. Dont SoC right away without casting the dots first, chances are youll get agroo in no time plus the dots help your spam to explode soc.
If your Tank is too noob:
Method 2
Dot first target, dot second target, dot 3rd target, 1-2 Shadowbolts second target, Shadobolt till death 3rd target. When i say dots here i mean CoA, Corr, UA.
If your tank cant even hold that:
Extra noob tank method
Coa Corr shadowbolt spam single target mob
I do arround 2800 dps with first method 2000-2200 second and 1500-1700 third method
my stats are 2000sp with fel armor 15% crit 280 haste
At bigger brother mobs (those with 130k life) I use haunt CoA Coor Sbolt UA Immolate Sbolt haunt Sbolt Sbolt Sbolt... till mob dies. If your group has low dps and mob dies in more than 1 tick of your drain soul use drain soul at <25%
Use the "optimal" rotation only on bosses. My rotation on bosses is Haunt CoA Corr Sbolt UA Immo SL Haunt Sbolt and refresh as needed after the dot expires calculating cast times exept haunt where you must calculate travel time also. I do 2600-3200 dps on bosses depending on the trinket procs (egg and sundial) or erradication proc. That nubmers are on a relative tank and spanc bosses like those in CoT-CoS
Use the dottimer addon for better results. I like using it in advanced mode and make the dots as icons with the timer inside. Also i like the dot staying without a timer even if it has expired.
OMG thats a miniguide. GIEF sticky!
