I've been preaching about SoCo for PvP, blood/martyr for PvE for a really long time now.
I was just schooled last night by a skilled arena ret pally, and would like to share, that this is the old way of doing things.
6k judgements vs 10k judgements pretty much explains it all. I've been having major issues in PvP, and was hard pressed trying to figure it out, putting in well timed stuns/repentences, etc. SoB(M) is the new burst mechanic of the ret pally. It literally speaks for itself.
In arena with a healer, Blood/Martyr is actually the prefered seal, and almost the only way to take down a skilled healer. The loss in output alone by using SoCo isn't much, but the judgements are way, way smaller in comparison. I'm going to have to do some simulations to show the difference, but if you look at any raid paladin's WWS, you will see, Judgement of Martyr is 40-45% of their damage. If anyone wants to compare it with Judgement of Command on test dummies, feel free and post it. You will be surprised.

Once the healer dies the paladin is pretty much killing himself.

Killing a healer with 10k crits every 8 seconds vs 6k crits every 8 seconds is a BIG difference. Not to mention, if you have a good healer, he shouldn't be dieing before you, and in 2v2, if he is getting the heat, you will be free to use AoW procs on yourself or him.
I will tell you right now, if you want to get a holy pally to bubble, you need the increase in your holy damage output.

May work better than SoC
with
a healer, but without one in a double dps team, you are still killing yourself. The AoW procs won't help you.

Thats what I said...terribly but I said it.
If your healer dies, you are making the enemies job
that
much easier.
