You seem geniunely interested in finding out the answers to your questions, so here's a preemptive call to keep the trolling down on this one, guys.
Personally, I pretty much hate arena. I do a 2v2 with a DK just to blow off steam and collect a few points. We don't respec, and I use my PvE gear. We maybe manage a 1650+ rating with these conditions. Again, we just don't take it seriously.
In your position, I would honestly just use the PvE gear that gives you a ton more AP. But, it depends on what you're looking for. If you want to be competitive and take it seriously, then you absolutely need to grind out the honor and get full PvP gear. If you are, like me, just doing it for "fun" and goofing around, then you can afford to just use your PvE spec/gear.
And, I can say with very limited knowledge, that Holy Pallies are pretty OP as far as healers go in the 2v2 bracket. When I respec'ed Holy for arena one week, our ratings jumped a hundred points or so. And my gear was no where close to good. So, keep that in mind.
But again, I hate arena. So I may be biased.

Well sir, since you seem to know your way around Ret lets just say all of this from...
my
perspective. My arena partner is weaker than I am and obviously knows nothing about PvP, I would say I have 1 of 2 choices, dump him and find a better partner or the longer somewhat kinder choice of try and teach him how to PvP/Play his class/Etc.
I personally would sac about 800 AP you said it was? For 300+ Resil. Seeing as how you are a Ret paladin, Aka target #1 for hatred and being ganged up on...and being crit resistant is always a great thing in PvP...
If you are a quick thinking healer who knows how to handle himself if two beastly TG warriors come charging at you then you can handle PvP healing. If you don't think you could hand them both while healing your team then um...try?
It all comes down to what you want to do, you could tough it out with 0 resil and die and lose until you get those arena points you need for that gear. Or you can make the set and tough it out with a little less damage, which for a ret pally isn't saying too much....
If you've seen my other posts you know this is a huge wall of text for me....so appreciate it lol.
-Good Luck
Edit: Let this be a lesson to all posters using proper grammar and making what you want known will get you helpful posts...even from
me
.

Some times I don't flame...
You're welcome.
I try to help people that seem like they did their research looked for themselves but eventually got stumped and now are forced to rely on elitist jerks like me lol.

Oh, PureGold. That's all I can say about that.
Otherwise, you've just read two pretty divergent opinions about your first post. After reading your second post, I would definitely just say: Start the grind.

See he is in such a state of shock. I agree, just grind that honor. Then blast your way to the glad set as hard and as fast as you can.

Alrighty. Sounds like a plan. While I've got your attention what would you say is a good partner for me as Ret. I've heard that frost or arcane mages are good but I haven't found much information on the subject.
Oh dear god...I haven't PvPed in forever...uhh. Well...IMO I don't really think a healer would do you too well in 2v2 considering most people will just faceroll you. Unless its a Disc priest but I still view them as gods since they would always be in groups that beat me.
An Arcane mage would be pretty useful and you could save him from snares but well the group would be more based around him considering you'd prolly be healing him more than actually dpsing...
Then again...I have no clue this is all just guess work.

No problem. Any opinions are better then none. I've just honestly never given it much thought either. The other day I was just thinking about trying it and then I saw a Rogue wanted to start so I figured what the hell. I think it'll end up being fun and a nice break from PVE. Now that I think about it a Mut rogue would really help a pally. Considering they'd stun lock one target while you just power down the other.....F**K I like that combo lol.

I'll ask him if he thinks he can pull it off. It would definetly be nice if he can.
Also make sure you work well together...I ran with a guy I like but we didn't work well together...at least our team was named WE LOSE ALL THE TIME...cause well...we did.
Grats on your avatar!

A good resto shaman will do well with a ret paladin. Ret/arca mage is fun because of one reason. Win or lose, the match is fast as hell. =)
I play it, and it is pretty rough, but a whole lot of fun. I do spend a lot of time healing the mage, but for the most part, he does rather well surviving on his own. Taking out a healer is hit or miss usually. It takes really well times cc and burst to down them quickly enough to take out the dps as well before we die. At the same time, ret paladins are known for being hard to kill, and the arca mage is spamming spell steal on healers so I can nuke em, which makes him last longer. I was able to take out 2 rogues after they nuked my arca mage(one was at 50%, the other at 25% when he died), luck was on my side that night.
Frost mages are situational tho. Great cc and survivability, but hard to do really good burst anymore as frost. Arca mages can do just as well with kiting, yet they can pom pyro/arcablast/nova for a good 12k or more with near zero time for them to heal. Throw a counterspell in the mix and it is leathal more often than not when you have a ret pally on the target as well with a stun pointed their way.

I have heard about resto shammies with ret pallies but had totally forgotten about it. I think for now I'll play around with the Rogue and get myself some experience and hopefully some gear and then seek out a parter or partners for a team.
I really hope my partner is trying to get into Arenas as much as I am.
Like I said make sure he is mut...it makes combo points flow like rivers...
Ask him...He MAY be just as wanting to get into it as you are..In fact I think you've convinced me to gather up some holy gear and go back...I kind of miss being ambushed for 8k+...

Sounds like he knows almost nothing, about pvp at all...
If dps don't focus fire then you are pretty much done.
Yeah get some gear then you may be able to just find someone who can play, but don't give up too fast on him without trying to help him. He could be really young...kids never seem like they know what they are doing.
