Boomkins function off of criting.
Nature's Grace
means faster cast timers when you crit.
Moonkin Form
takes care of your mana regen when you crit.
Eclipse
when used properly will give you a lot of bonus damage to your rotation.
So basically your main stat is crit to be an effective moonkin.
You will also want to be hit capped. I believe 17% is the caster hit cap for raid boss encounters. 236 hit rating will give you exactly 9% add 4% from
Balance of Power
and 3% from
Improved Faerie Fire
and you will have a total of 16% hit rating for raid bosses. I've left a 1% gap there to include the Draenei racial
Heroic Presence
. If you don't have a Draenei in your party you will need 262ish hit rating to be fully hit capped on your own with these talents.
PLEASE correct me if I am wrong.

This was interesting. And important reading. I didnt know crit was the "main" stat for Boomkin. I was thinking it was the same priority as for other caster dps. But offc. as you put it. Crit becomes your haste rateing and your mana regen. Meaning you want something inn line of Crit-SP-int-hit-haste-spirit.
Or.....?

Actually, while moonkins have a lot of talents that work on crits and as such increase the desirability of that stat, theorycrafting tells us that spellpower and haste are still better from a pure dps perspective:
sp > haste > crit > spi > int
The main reason for crits low position is the rating to % conversion rate.
As for mana regeneration, which has to be taken into account too when gearing: crit is better than haste, and int is better than spi (because of the replenishment effects which are based on your total mana pool).

I have been one of the largest backers of the 50% crit argument (I think I may have been the first to bring it up but don't want to make that claim as it could have easily been thought of long before me), but in my more recent thoerycrafting sessions I have fond that rating point per rating point crit is
slightly
worse then haste to stack for.
This does not mean to stack haste over crit or crit over haste. You want to stack both stats fairly equally as they build off each other (multiplicative). Crit to 50% is easy to attain but don’t overlook haste while stacking for it (I run around this myself and still have ~350 haste rating).
Hit (to cap) > Spell Power > Crit/Haste > Int > Spirit/Mp5
Please note that Hit and SP are
before
crit and haste. It is
vital
to not overlook this point when arguing crit vs haste.
Once you get to looking at the numbers or even play around with many of the Calcs that are out there that support or are written directly for our class you can start worrying over which is going to be better. What you want to stack in each situation changes very quickly with different pieces of gear and many times the buffs you recieve can easily change what you want for each situation.
Whether you want to sit at 50% Crit then stack haste in significant numbers or you want to stack large amounts or haste and get crit whereever you will, you will see an improvement in your DPS. The only point of arguing over which is technically better in each situation comes down trying to be the best you can. You will see gains in DPS with either one you stack so don't be embarrassed to stack what you can get your hands on just try to shoot for the middle ground.
