Ok I should know this but tracking my dps has never really been a priority since my instance experience is limited. I recently installed the recount addon and want to test my dps. From what I gather, I reset it and beat on a target dummy for a while. Can anyone kinda expand on ways for me or anyone else who wants to know, to track or check dps?

You can have the main recount box give you an average dps as you go along, but I think you're asking about
real time
dps. To show this, click on the config icon, which looks like a gear, and click on the appearance tab. The look to the right and there are buttons for DPS, HPS and things like that. Click the dps button and you're good to go! Remember that shaman dps can be very spiky so don't forget to check out your avg dps as well.

IMO the target dummy isn't useful at all for that, I'm a prot pally and over half my damage comes from BEING punched in the face....Go solo an elite or something.

I'd have to disagree with you. The dummies are VERY helpful for dps'ing and figuring out proper rotations and such. Tanks however need to be hit to produce rage/reflective dmg so the dummies would be near worthless to them, but then why would dps important to tanks? DPS =! Threat per second.

I'm not sure if I'd want you tank to for me if you're so concerned about your DPS as a tank.
