I know that running a MMORPG server is complicated but I played on several other games and with a few notable exceptions, nothing like this ever happened on an xpac release or during an update. If it did it was only once a year not almost monthly like it has been.
I've never seen a game developer make one class significantly more difficult to play in PVE or PVP for years at a time than their counterparts.
Secondly why take them down in the early morning when people play? Other servers do it at midnight to 6am PST. They think of their customers inconvenience. That seems very professional to me. I think what happens is that Blizzard has an almost apathetic attitude towards their customers own convenience.
I love the game and still believe it is the best out there, but that doesn't mean I'm going to bend over backwards and exclaim how wonderful they are and that they can do no wrong.
Right now they are up there with the Vanguard Release and Anarchy Online Release in my opinion and I only hope the xpac runs a heck of a lot smoother.

One thing worth noting is that none of those other MMOs had the number of active users that WoW has. As such, Blizzard is dealing with unique load issues, so we're bound to get unique problems with unique solutions that other companies did not have to employ.
As for ETAs, well... unique problems with unique solutions are going to be hard to estimate. Anyone who has ever been in the software development industry knows that. Frankly everyone should... I doubt there is one person alive who has never been late for anything because they failed to estimate how long it would take them to get ready or failed to estimate how much traffic was on the road.

I smell a thread lock coming.
Aside from the intoduction paragraph, the OP actually had reasonable content. I'm going to keep this thread open as long as civil discussion can be had. :)

Actually their "Load Problems" were brought on by them not managing their load adequately. You have a bunch of servers overloaded that needed to be controlled and yet nothing was done then on the opposite end you have servers with not enough players to even support pugs.
This is not a problem of some new and unique issue, it's a problem of mismanagement. In my opinion they focused so much on getting the artistic bohemian type to help develop the game that they lost track of the managerial and developmental aspects of running a game.
Just because they have 10 million players doesn't make it all that more difficult logistically to maintain the servers. You expand as you get new customers, and realistically they still have enough room with the underpopulated servers to maintain the current customer load.
Again poor management is to blame for this. I wouldn't be surprised if you see some job's open up for project managers at Blizzard soon.

Those other companies also did not have the revenue and cash flow that Blizzard has. Its all relative, more players = more revenue = the ability to have better servers and better maintenance people.
Not exactly. They also have more servers, higher network/electricity bills, etc etc etc. They're not exactly sitting of fat stacks of cash. That money is going to maintain the vast amount of hardware you use on a daily basis, replacing failed hard drives, adding new servers. I doubt they have so much money that they could just throw a few more thousand people at their issues to solve them.

Dont feed the troll comment is the exact BS remark my original post was in reference too.
You need to get your own opinion back, maybe Blizzard will offer a quest for that in the future.

Hardware fialure is rare from what I've been told, this is more about mistakes made while implementing code or the failure to revue their work before putting live into the game.
Again as has already been said they make so much money off this game it makes me wonder how much is reninvested into making it better for their customers? The latency issue is one that comes to mind, that is most likely going to be traced to outdated hardware unable to support he load it's being required to handle with the new content from the xpac. Most developers would have seen that coming and tried to deal with before hand, not wait to see what the aftermath was then deal with it. That's my opinion at least.
