yes, SoL is a viable dps spec. one of our kara group's shadow priest - who was always in the top 3 dps slots - respecced offensive smite with surge of light. he's the #1 dps spot now. (and in case you're thinking it, our group is very well geared and has excellent dps... once we get coordinated enough for netherspite, kara will be on farm status)

Back when I was leveling during the 60-70 rush I had around a 30% crit chance with smite/holyfire/holy nova with HolySpecial/Force of Will and Crit gear. Holy Nova isn't that great due to its high mana cost but it can be used as an instant heal in PvP or for clearing lower level instances.

Maybe, but he used to regen your raid's mana/health *AND* DPS (and probably did well dpsing), now he's only dpsing. Not helpful imo.

He's got Power infusion and Improved divine spirit for the raid now. Not helpful?

It seems that Holy Nova would get the crit chance and damage bonus from focused will to the damage that it does, but wouldn't get that for any of the healing that it does. Holy Nova seems to me to be BOTH and an offensive and a healing spell.
Like it was said earlier, the mp cost is high. I doubt you'd be chain casting it.
Using it with Inner Focus helps out, plus you get 25% more crit chance. I have never used Holy Nova before, but I did find a thread on it before where people were saying that it could indeed crit, both for damage and healing.
Sort of sucky that the radius is so small. Running into the fray to cast it wouldn't be so awesome.

Those are nice, especially Imp Divine spirit which does help the spell damage and healing of whoever has it.
Pain Suppresssion could be really awesome too, but only if you have really good communication with a dpser who is willing to go over the threat cap and rely on it.

Slightly, my holy has IDS, its not bad. PI's good for duels/arenas when not dispelled, doesn't make *any* difference in a boss fight. On the other hand, my spriest is a HUGE asset in any raid.

Yeah, I wish I could say i'd tested it out. I understand your fears that a respec might not end up getting you anything other than the knowledge that HN doesn't count as an offensive spell. However, I don't see how it could NOT be an "offensive spell", considering it AoE dmgs enemies. Hmm, too bad there aren't more Discipline Priests that could chime in on this one who have actual numbers.
Concerning your 2 priest strategy, are you talking about pvp, or just leveling? I was recently partied with a mage and we were working Uldaman. He would do his AoE freeze root then AoE them. I'd keep him shielded and HoT'ed and then help nuke them down. It worked great, but sometimes I felt like I was doing nothing. If I had had HN we could have done it 2x as fast with a much more even balance of mp usage between the 2 of us (he was OOM more than me).
All that being said, depending on what you're trying to do, it might be worth looking into other combos with HN other than just partying with an Spriest.

I'm unclear how you think a 20% dmg or healing increase being cast on anyone in your party is totally useless. And have you ever taken Discipline all the way to Pain Supression?
