Going to Resto

I've been leveling up a Shaman for a while now, he's 67 at the moment. I've leveled him the whole way as Enhance, but I plan (always have) to make him be a Resto raider.
I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on how to make that leap.
I do have another 3 levels to go, but I have very minimal caster gear. I have friends who can help me out with instances from time to time, but not enough friends where I can just get carried through Kara every week for heal gear.
Is it suggested that I try to fill instance/raid slots as DPS while collecting Resto gear? I never found it easy to get into parties as a Hunter, and they've got CC, I can't imagine how bad it must be for an Enhance Shammy to get a group spot.
Or should I just go Resto with what I've got (I'm sitting at 517 heals. I'd probably be in the 650 range by the time I hit 70) and try to heal some of the lower level instances?
I am a Leatherworker, so there are a few pieces of loot I can get from that, but not much.

What I'm gathering from the 4 replies here is..
By the time I hit 70, with the rate I'm collecting heal gear on the side, I should definitely be safe to heal some Regular instances if I go Resto. (I grossly underestimated how much healing gear I'd collect. I'm still 67 and already at 630 +heals)
I vaguely remember hearing the magic number of 1200 elsewhere in regards to the point that one should be able to heal heroics. So that's what I'll shoot for.
And Daefaroth, those actual gear recommendations helped a bunch. I think I'll PVP for my mace though, for a nice easy big boost in +heals, even though it lacks other PVE stats.
