On my shadow priest, I can usually rank near the top of battlegrounds in damage done. However, spriests are only effective when they stay alive, which can be a real chore in any type of pvp. With a shield that doesn't scale to +spell or +heal (yet) and a 26 sec cd fear, our only hope is to maybe* get a MC off on you, which gets trinketed off in 1.2 seconds. Although some people can pull it off, spriests don't belong in arena. They are always targeted and destroyed first, and nothing can stop that. Imo, mages are much more versatile and valuable to both arena teams and BG groups. Rerolling ftw.
Wrong
Shadowpriest+Rogue
Mindblast+shadow word death
a lot of burst right there

SPriests are just too squishy for anything but 2s with a mage or rogue(or maybe a balance druid). Rogues eat them alive, and rogues are all over the place.
I did 3s with one so I've witnessed it first hand.
You could try 3s with a warlock and shaman though(Shadow Comp), it's one of the few good 3s comps involving an SPriest. There are probably some decent guides for it around the net too.
As for 5s, you could probably do okay in a team with a paladin in it.
As for mage vs. SPriest in a duel, if both players are well geared and CDs are up, IMO the mage should win, especially if they're undead.
