As i said in a recent post, regardless of who is best at what healing utility, no healer is as versatile as a priest!
We can switch between roles without batting an eyelid.
With the new talents in WotLK we will get mana back from overheals, extra healing on targets with low health, a free healer who sacrifices itself to save our target and extra chance at cleacasting that will increase spell haste too (and that's just the holy tree).
We also get a shockadin style spell and imba healing/survivability bonuses deep into Disc.
Yes shammies are looking better than they were, but all these things get balanced by blizz over the course of time as they work out which classes are OP and nerf them accordingly.
Remember when a retridin was a joke that did the same level of mele damage as a priest? Now I know people who swear by their debuffs for raiding.
Blizz will take a while to iron out the kinks and OP classes will get nerfed and UP classes will get buffed.
There was a lot of mess after TBC came out and now things appear to be more balanced. Expect the same in WotLK.

I realize there is no best healing class. Each healing class is good at certain things. Shams - Raid , pallys = single target. But..
Pallys - Can tank
Shamans - Crazy good dps, totems, and mail
Priest - Can heal... ( Shadows dps cant compare)
shadow dps has been revamped to scale better. hellllllooooo crittable mind flays

people ive grouped with took me as soon as i said 'shadowpriest'
people respect the dps a shadowpriest puts out. it is among the top in 5 mans, and decent in single target. by no means the best, but once flay crits, oh god im gona get hard thinking of that.
also, i cant see that 'source' link from work, what does it say? is it only a static amt of regen while the priest is dpsing or something?

If you really are convinced that shamans are going to be that much better, just... roll a shaman? Expansions are the perfect time to switch classes, because whatever gear you currently have no longer means anything. Everyone starts over at the same footing once you reach the level cap.
Personally, I'm thrilled with what priests are getting in WotLK, and I will happily be staying with mine. To each their own, though.

He quoted the relavent part of the link in the post. Shadow priests, ret paladins and survival hunters all trigger the same buff,
Replenishment
, when they use certain abilities (VT in the case of priests). It affects the 10 people in the raid group who have the lowest mana. It isn't based on damage, it just triggers when the ability is used. I haven't heard for sure yet if it stacks if you have multiple sources in the raid.

Ok so I read this in a different post on the forums and I was just kind of in question about the future updates for Wotlk.
I thought blizz meant for the priest to be the best healer? But with what this guy is saying and if you take in there ridicolous amount of sweet totems and there ability to wear mail or whatever the hell they get to wear also and you cant use the whole cloth has better +heals cause everything is moving to spellpower.
So let me get this straight. Shamans are getting all these crazy good abilitys, still get to wear mail, and they have there totems.
Priest do get guardian spirit and a couple other things but I dont see how we will be the best healers come Wotlk.
I am not saying I am right or this dude is.
I am just trying to get peoples opinion on the matter
. I could be missing a lot here. Thanks!
In Wrath, I think that Shaman will simply be the best healers. Spirit Link means that even healing a 5-man, Shaman can always chain heal, and if a large spike damage breaks the link, well how about that faster cast on the next couple healing waves? Stack in the INSANE power of the totems, and yeah, Priests can't compare. Stamina and Spirit vs strength/agility, haste/spellhaste, HoT/mana HoT, raid-wide psuedo-innervate, +spelldamage/+fire enchant on weapons, PLUS all the situational totems like the resistance totems. That's ridiculous.
You want peoples opinions on the matter huh?
My opinion is you want to be a shaman.
Shamans will not be "the best healer" in WotLK. Priests/Druids/Pallys are healers. At best, Shamans are an OH. And a support class. That's it.
Roll a shaman. You'll be happier than being a priest.
