Hey all, a friend of mine said this was the place to go for questions and help. So here I am.
This is my build
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=cZVVbRVzZIhhG0cMhAuh
I know bst spec is the best dps, I know I wont be coming close to it no matter what. Personally, I don't care as the above spec is just too much damn fun. Utility galore !
But I'm also realistic and ultimately WoWs community is performance driven and my lower than bst dps will only be tolerated to a point. So my question is, what can I do to really squeeze every bit of dmg from my build. Should I use slow or fast speed weapons, what rotations or pets can help add that extra 20 or 30 dps ..ya know : The nuances that only the experienced player would know, I'm hoping to find some of that here.
Thanks to any patient types that reply.
p.s. I know enough of the hunter to understand the conventional wisdom behind spec so no need to recommend the appropriate agi for surv and mention that EW doesn't stack. However, any other spec bores me, really,... sometimes MM for a bit of change but it never stays that way.

Well I clearly haven't tried that spec and you won't find much theorycrafting on such a build but your shot rotation should be similar to a MM or SV build. You probably want to try to maintain a 1:1.X rotation (steady-instant-auto-steady-auto-repeat) inserting an arcane shot, multi shot(if possible), or sting after every other steady shot.
Since that requires fitting 2 1.5s steady shots and a 1.5s global cooldown into two auto shots the theoretical maximum attack speed you can handle would be a 2.25s weapon. Realistically you need to add some time to account for both your latency and reaction speed but whatever haste you have, including your quiver) will give you some more room to work with.
The 15% haste effect from your quiver cuts steady shot down to a 1.3s cast. Two 1.3s steady shots + 1 1.5s global cooldown from your instant shot + two delays due to latency and reaction speed, call it 0.3s each, and we get 4.7s for your special attacks. We want that to cover 2 auto attacks which means a 2.35s attack speed or a 2.7s weapon before the haste from your quiver. Obviously I'm making up numbers for the delay between your special attacks so you may find that the result varies somewhat. If you have a better idea how quickly you can trigger special attacks feel free to do your own theorycrafting or test it in game, you'll also need to take any other haste gear or buffs you have into account.
That still seems fast to me so I may have done something wrong. In general most MM or SV hunters I talk to want a 3.0s weapon but that may be to account for more haste gear.
Depending on what sort of gear you have that may or may not affect your weapon choices.
With such a crit heavy build hopefully you have a
Relentless Earthstorm Diamond
in whatever helm you use to further buff your crit damage.
You clearly have your own priorities for your spec but looking at it I would consider moving the three points from Resourcefulness into Master Tactician. Reducing your trap cooldown may be nice but I think you'll use the extra crit chance more often.
I can't promise any of that will make the spec even close to the damage you could do otherwise but that's all I can suggest.

lol Fellas don't be so harsh on me. I'm not a hardcore raider as in I don't run 25 mans. They're just not my cup of tea. Heroics, Kara, ZA and BG's are my thing. I know some of you are pro, and thats why I'm here but please understand, I drink WoW diet ;D
So .. if you were to apply uber hunter knowledge to linked spec, what choices would you make to squeeze out that last bit of dps?
edit for response to Zakambar. (sorry Asahunt, your response was appreciated to, but Zal's felt like math lab =D )
I wrote this reply in between down time during SV, { only such moment:druid healer, tank had to walk ;) }
but didn't post till after run.
basically, thanks a bunch. Thats the kind of insight I was hoping for!
