Get the cloak, the ring or the bracers. And don't listen to that other guy -- gemming for +stam once you're at 490 defense and 102.4% combined mitigation (uncrushable), +stam is the way to go.
I wholeheartedly disagree.

The problem I see with the "every gem slot must be +12 stam(or epic equiv)" is this:
The socket bonus.
For instance:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34947with
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=35707 you have a total stam of + 67
with
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24033you have a total stam of +70
That is 3 stamina more at the cost of 4 dodge rating.
Ill take the extra item point please....
it gets even better here:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33523 with
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24033 and a
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=35707 nets you:
stam +67
with 2
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24033 you only get +69 stamina....... but lose 4 dodge rating...
So tell me... do you think 2 stamina is better than 4 dodge rating?
I don't.

Chestguard of the Stoic Guardian
Inscribed Legplates of the Aldor
Ring of the Stalwart Protector
Slikk's Cloak of Placation
Did you look at his armory? He already has the chestpiece and legs. The cloak and ring are nice, but he pays his monthly fees, if he wants boots next, let him get boots...lol
The armory I saw was almost all blues. Jade-skull and Wrynn Dynasty. Dunno what happened, as you're right in what I'm seeing now.
And of course you're right again. I'm pulling out a gun and placing it to his temple to prevent him from buying boots with his badges. *roll of the eyes* Actually, I'm offering up what will be better choices for him. He has the Battlescar. Those will do fine for a while yet. The ring and cloak are much more urgent.
Why are Righteous Sabatons better than Blue's Greaves?
- Shield block rating grows less valuable as your gear level increases. All those points will be pushed off the combat chart eventually, while the defense and shield block value of the Righteous Sabatons remains valuable. Essentially, the Sabatons are a piece that will last you deep into content. The Greaves will collect dust once you've built your avoidance.
- More stamina if you gem for stamina. Alternately, more pure avoidance stats if you need to gem in that direction.
- Defense is a huge stat. A tankadin's first priority is uncrittability. If he can maintain that without trinkets, that allows for significant stamina and avoidance increases using those slots.
but remeber we as paladins like to block, that is the other mechanic by which we do dmg and generate threat.
Not in higher end raids. There, you want the pure avoidance stats and you'll have more than enough spell damage to hold threat.
According to Wowhead here, Blue's greaves are the best boots he has access to right now outside of Blacksmithing, Black Temple, or T6 boots. Heck the Boots of Elusion from Karazhan are rated slightly better than the Sabatons of the Righteous Defender.
Wowhead has an opinion on this? Are you referring to that weighting system they've put into place?
I'll give you a quick hint: Argument from Authority is a fallacy. Argument from Authority of an Anonymous Committee is laughable. Even the most renowned experts in any given field have to present their arguments. Explain why a particular piece is superior. Don't pull up a list and say "See?"

Hey, that is a clever little saying.
Actually, it's basic Logic 101. I'm afraid there are thousands of men and women before me dating back to Aristotle and beyond who spent significant portions of their lives puzzling out how to determine the validity of an argument, so I can't take credit.
And yes, I am referring to wowhead's weighting system. I stated where I pulled the info from and how I came to my conclusions in previous posts in this thread.
No. You didn't. In none of the three posts you made in the thread before this one did you mention Wowhead's weighting system explicitly. You instead asserted that "Wowhead says", which could mean any of a number of things from comments in the item discussions area to your pet parrot, Wowhead.
My comment, of course, is specifically in reference to your Argument by Authority. Not to the other arguments you have made which I have addressed.
Any btw, where can I find the article that says gem everything with Solid Stars? Where is the expert or argument supporting that idea?
You can find discussions on the topic over at Maintankadin and Tankspot, I'm certain. As I haven't taken a position on gemming for stamina versus avoidance in this thread, nor was it the primary concern of the initial poster, I don't really see the relevance.
Though really, he should take the stamina bonus from the Tankatronics. Enduring Talasite would be a free 4 defense.
Not in higher end raids. There, you want the pure avoidance stats and you'll have more than enough spell damage to hold threat.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see this guy heading to T6 content any time in the near future, so again, why can't he get the boots he wants and pick up the pure avoidance on other pieces? I mean, 18 defense rating? seriously? You can gem and/or enchant and easily obtain 18 defense rating. And since we are talking pure avoidance, argue how blocking an attack is not superior to reducing an attacks damage through block value by 30?
Okay. You're wrong. I've tanked Hyjal trash with worse gear than he has.
You're also wrong in your assertion that he should get the boots "he wants". He hasn't expressed a preference. He's asked for advice on which to take.
Yes. 18 defense rating. Seriously. It will provide benefits at 102.4%, while shield block rating will provide essentially nothing. Gemming and enchanting for defense comes at a significant cost in stamina, while swapping out 18 defense for 34 block rating allows you to improve overall pure avoidance at no cost.
Your last sentence quite simply makes no sense. When uncrushable, Block Rating will be pushed off the end of the table while Holy Shield is up. Block Value, at that point, is actually useful in reducing incoming damage while more Block Rating does nothing. As he's chosen to pick up Slikk's (an excellent piece), he is now uncrushable when properly raid buffed.
Anyhow, lets be honest, the expansion will come out soon and most likely the current badge loot will be forgotten. So, unless he plans on reaching T6 content within the next couple months, he will get more use out of the blue's greaves from now until then. Correct?
I find that the phrase, "Let's be honest" is usually followed by statements that are anything but honest, but rather by attempts to nudge the person's own position into the conclusion without justifying it.
And no, he won't get more use out of Blue's Greaves until then. He's uncrushable, well over 17k health raid buffed, and likely looking for pieces that will be genuinely useful to him. Such as those with extra pure avoidance and health.
