Looking for Opinions: Warlock vs. Ret Paladin Damage

Hi,
I know that I'm asking for something that seems to be hardly comparable for most people. Well the background is the following: My main was a warlock for a long time and i loved to play her until i realized that i came to a point where i couldn't progress anymore without T6 raiding. Since my guild didn't offer it I got bored and started to play one of the most underrated classes ingame: A ret paladin.
I got her to lvl 70 recently and geared her up. My first Kara runs were a clear surprise for my guild and me. I came there expecting to do not much damage at all and ended up on the second place of the damage meter wearing mainly greens and some epics: Beating badge gear warlocks.
Well. I have to say i'm surprised at that. And i keep wondering who would make more damage in a perfect szenaro with equal gear: A blood elf pally (cause of SoB) or a destro warlock in equal gear.
My main reason to ask for this is because i'm considering to make the paladin my main and gear her up for T5-T6 raiding but I'm unsure if this would be worth it. Don't get me wrong I enjoy playing both classes equally but for the future i'd like to decide to focus on one of them to be able to get the best possible equip for it. (also keeping Wotlk in mind..)
I'm really looking forward to your replies. Thanks ALOT

the only way to get the maximum dps out of your ret pally would be to have a windfury totem.
otherwise warlocks can easily pull ahead.
but even with a windfury totem, good warlocks can still pull ahead.
if you plan to be topping charts as a ret pally, you may do it once in a while vs slacking/lazy/ungeared/etc. players, but if your raid consists of equally geared, on-the-balls-of-their-feet players, then you will have a very VERY tough time maintaining the #1 spot
that and ret pallies will run out of mana on a long fight, even if you're chain potting. locks can simply life tap and dps forever

Talanax speaks the truth here.
With my ret pala (who is now retired till WotlK coz i got sicj of all the retlol crap), Ive seen my dpsbe anywhere from 450-900 dps depending on buffs present.
Aswell as befreinding druids for innervates try get ur pala healer/s to put up a JoW on the target. Your crusader strike will keep it up and ull get some mana back.
