Items stats not scaling with level as expected?

Hi,
I'm leveling a resto shammy (currently 41) and while browsing for some usable one-hand weapons with +dmg/healing something started to look strange: I couldn't believe that some items twice the level of some lower items are only
marginally
better stats-wise :(
I'm currently equipping this item:
Hypnotic Blade
. It requires level 34 and drops from
Arcanist Doan
from SM Library wing.
One example is a Level 59
group
quest reward:
Black Crystal Dagger
.
Another, even more comparable, example is also a boss drop:
Witchblade
from
Darkmaster Gandling
.
Both of these look only marginally better (for a dps caster/healer) than the
Hypnotic Blade
, in my opinion.
I'm I wrong to expect something better from the level 57 & 59 items or is the
Hypnotic Blade
really that imba for its level?
I can't believe that I could chant the
Hypnotic Blade
with
Healing Power
and carry it easily up to level 60 :(

The two items you compare it to are clearly better. The black crystal dagger has 33% more spelldamage, with some mp5 replacing some intellect and spirit. The witchblade has 56% more spelldamage, and only loses a little spirit.
You have to look at upgrades in relative terms, otherwise they may seem tiny at lower levels.

Something else to keep in mind, was that pre-bc (which is where all the gear you're linking is from) spellpower and stats did not scale as high as they do in BC, even relatively speaking.

Your points are correct, Sakkura, although it's hard to compare the +3 Spirit loss to +5 dmg/heal gain (between the 2 blades)
exactly
.
This way, if we see INT and SPI as equally valuable, the -3 SPI on Witchblade can be seen as 33% of stat reduction, so in the whole picture the Witchblade seems only 56-33=23% better than the Hypnotic Blade stat-wise, even if its 68% better level-wise. And that discrepancy in gain (68% of level against 23% of stat) is what buggs me - it just doesn't "look" right :)

That's most probably why that discrepancy (of stat scaling) doesn't "look" right for me - I'm used to TBC items/scaling!

another reason is that most items in lower level dungeons had their stats changed to include spelldamage, spellhit, hit, ... resulting in buffed items.
According to a comment for the Hypnotic Blade, the item was previously without the +9 dmg/heal :o
Nice buff! :)

I would guess this is because of the revamp to all the low-level gear that happened a few patches ago. They simply ignored the vanilla wow endgame gear, because noone would use it anyway.
