A question about WoW armory

I have read many threads about different opinions on gear pieces and I have a question for those more knowledgable than myself. When I look at my character screen in wowarmory and am looking for upgrades for my gear I often use the "look for upgrades" feature in wowarmory. Here is my question, in your opinions is the armory "usually" right? In other words, my kings defender should be replaced by the sun eater. This is just one example and one that I am unsure of. Another example is the dawnforged defender, shield, should be replaced by the shield drop off nightbane. Now I had this drop after downing him and passed it up because I didn't see a big difference. Armory shows Nightbane's shield as a significant improvement. To improve my tank I go in and look for gear upgrades that I can farm, as heroic drops, or buy, with badges, and do so by looking at the "look for upgrades" feature. Is this viable? Should I take the suggestions as rules or suggestions. If you feel that this is not the best way to look for gear upgrades for my tank please give me alternate suggestions. Thank you for your help.

The only thing that wowarmory is going to go by is item level and a few similar stats. I think you should be using the Filters wowhead instead. It gives you a better picture because you know what stats you need. wowarmory doesn't.
If you want to upgrade your King's Defender, think about the stats that it gives that you like. Weapon Speed, the fact that it has defense (or maybe your next weapon you don't feel needs any defense because you have that covered elsewhere).
