I try to be nice to people I.E.as I would like to be treated but as often is the case some people just can't get along with others.Case in point had a level 20 join guild asked for help leveling.Ok so I meet him in SW.Inspect him still has level 8-12 gear.Dude you need better gear him no money ok lets go to ah I will help you out so I spend around 25 g to help him out. Then we group as per his sugestion and start to do his quests. Then I get Stop killing them I'm not getting any exp.I said we shouldn't be grouped ok I leave group baby sit him. Then I get WHY THE F*CK ARN'T YOU KILLING THESE FOR ME YOUR ARE A MORON.So if thats what you get for being nice why bother.I have kicked out so many jerks from my guild that there are only nine people left and one is my bank alt,and another is my daughter.I don't even bother to invite anyone anymore right away they want want want.Promote me give me gold I want access to all of your tabs.on and on adnauseiom

Yeah, nice people are hard to find. Even some people I like in real life I can't tolerate in-game because they might treat guildmates or newbies like crap. I've found that in general people in RP servers are nicer for some reason, but not without exception.
Only at higher levels. Also, I save all my trolling and jerkery for the forums :P Kinda like virtual.. virtual pvp. haha.

I started as a really nice player but now my energy has been completely drained from all the aholes in this game... and now I'm pretty sure I'm one of them (albeit a quiet one). I find 99% of all the community to be untolerable. I keep trade chat open for entertainment reasons tho at times I admit I feel like I am losing intelligence from reading all the crap in there. I usually play by the following guidelines:
I don't give advice to others unless asked for. Let people learn on their own and don't interrupt like some know-it-all guru. It's like Lao Tzu said:
He who knows, does not speak. He who speaks, does not know
. Those are words you can live by in this game.
I don't
ever
reply to someone who uses the abbreviation
plz
, guildies included. It's just one those things that really irritates me. Abbreviations like btw, wtf, lfg, wtb, wts, ty, tyvm, etc fly just fine with me. But plz is just one of those things that screams I'm a rebellious 12 year old. I hate people who replace 's' with 'z' in words.
If someone asks a legitimate
question in trade chat
(legit being anything that's wow related) and doesn't get an answer, I'll tell them (ie - where flight masters are, mats for certain items, etc). There's a first time for everything.
I don't respect players who knock
twinks
. This is because 9/10 they are hypocrites. I have seen too many people whine in /bg about being 1 shotted or whatever to saying how good my healing is (I have a twink druid) a few moments later when I save their ass. If you're gonna hate it, make sure you tell your own teammates your 2c as well so we can save some mana and skip you.
Wiping never bothers me and I'll never complain about it. Anyone who does is in for a shock should they ever join a progressing raid guild. You don't learn if you don't wipe from time to time.
I like people who do
/spit
and
/laugh
at appropriate times in BGs so long as it isn't spammed. There are few things more enjoyable than /spitting on a guy who desperately wants to 1v1 you only to have him get smashed by 9 of your buddies. I also like throwing snowballs too. Taunting people in pvp is one of the most redeeming things in this game and anyone who's offended by a virtual spit or laugh needs to grow a pair. It's fun, try it sometime.
Lastly, I never knock someone's gear. Would you tell a guy on the street he's a loser for shopping at k-mart instead of banana republic? Then why do it in game? It's f'in rude as hell. S/he's having fun, I'm having fun... everything's good.
So yeah... in response to the OP I experience it all the time and in the eyes of some I probably contribute to it at times too. :\

Another time someone apparently had their eye on an herb I gathered. I didn't see anyone in the area when I got it, but a few minutes later a random message popped up saying
"that was mine!"
Very odd.
I'd have replied, "No, it was herb". ^^
Still, it's nice to be negative sometimes. It's alot of fun screwing with beggars :D

What they need is server for different age groups (<12, 13-19, 20+) much like there are different swimming pools for kids and adults.
Unfortunately it would be difficult to establish player's age and would be unfair to mature kids.

What I've taken to doing is creating a separate chat tab for Trade channel so I don't have to subject myself to its drivel. I'm a much calmer person now. ;)
