Is it just me being tidy-minded (hate to see a 2/3 when a 3/3 talent looks better), or does 71/0/0 look like a good dps build? I.e. all points in Balance apart from that insta-root thing in the first tier.
I've seen all sorts of silly builds, Omen of Clarity and Master Shapeshifter look good on paper but having to put points into Nature's Focus and Natural Shapeshifter to get them, seems to me a waste of points that could be spent on damage increasing balance talents. And people missing out Owkin Frenzy cos they think it is only for soloing/PvP burst damage (would you like to have a chance of pushback immunity when using an emergency root/hibernate/cyclone or aoeing trash with hurricane?)?
The only talent from resto that I would consider is Imp MotW if my guild didn't have a Resto druid. But it does. So I prob won't.

To get those talents that you mention though, is 16 points, which 16 points in Balance would you drop? Seems like a big waste to me to spend 10 points in resto talents that are not really useful just to get third tier talents. Will you actually use things like 0.2 seconds faster healing touch? or reduce cost of shapeshifting by 10%? Which talents from Balance tree would you lose in favor of those?
I'll be getting mana back from my crits (instead of silly melee hits) so I think I could do with Eclipse...
Don't say lose Brambles, cos extra damage buff for the Tank is nice...
Improved Moonkin Form, increases raid's haste very often... don't say it'll make you oom faster, cos it will also make everyone's spells faster, so dead boss faster? surely?
Noone has raided a level 80 yet, noone knows quite what to expect of course... but, seriously, where would you take the points from? I just can't do it.

The fact is that mana-increase talents are useless if you aren't going OOM but provide a much bigger dps increase than dps increase talents (at least those you would skip to get Intensity and OoC) when you are going OOM.
And at the moment we don't know what stats we will have in lvl 80 blues, we don't know exactly how much average mana we will get returned through resto druids/hunters/ret pallies/spriests and so on.
Knowing the situation from before, many moonkins take the safe side and suppose they'll have to get Intensity. And while there, there's no reason not to take OoC and MS. On the opposite, if you are taking Intensity you can leave Dreamstate void as it'll provide much less of an increase. You can leave Gale Winds alone, because it's only for AoE situations. You can leave Typhoon alone because it doesn't seem really usefull at the moment.
It's always a trade-off. And there's not much point theorizing about it for now honestly, we simply don't know enough.

Barkskin is nice for those emergency moments, 1 minute cooldown though. Having a similar procced effect plus 10% extra damage will let you get some damaging spells off even with loads of mobs hitting you, so great for those 'oh heck' moments while soloing, and for AoE situations in instances. Then you can save your Barkskin for that panic heal. I am puzzled by anyone who thinks Owlkin Frenzy is bad. I mean, you're a big fat crazy owl and you don't want to go into a killing frenzy when you are being mobbed? :D
Not taking Dreamstate and Gale Winds is a sensible answer to my question, that would allow Intensity if it turns out we still need it (I hope not). I'm not sure though whether having more mana than you need will increase your dps more than talents that increase you damage. Surely it is better to be going PEW PEW PEW and the boss is dead and I'm oom rather than pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew and eventually the boss is dead and I've still got mana left? It looks like spell haste is going to be big news in the expansion though so I will reserve judgment on whether the new Moonkin Form's mana regen will counteract haste. If casters are stacking up haste like crazy we also may not need Improved Moonkin Form. All this extra +Spirit that is supposed to be on all caster items will make Innervate more powerful too, If you have the opportunity to use it on yourself instead of another raid member then perhaps it will not be so bad that we can't another potion any more.
As for any Balance talent being ONLY for AoE, well I feel that great AoE spells, along with great CC are what is going to make Moonkins even more fun and viable for any type of group situation. Many other classes are having their AoE and CC skills improved, so perhaps this reflects a move towards bigger groups of trash mobs in instances in WoTLK? I personally will embrace with both my erm, wings, any changes that make me as likely to be picked for a group as those ever popular Mages.
Premature theorizing is fun! Almost as fun as Moonfire-spamming a Blood Elf to death!

balance end is very silly , other then the 10 % to arcane and natur i think i will keep rest point to old spec.....(if not another balance druid got it in my raid)
typhoon not look that great even with gale force(and preety ugly to)
starfall look nice to as it just one click free dps but it will work like the night elf priest racial....just aoe version
only thing i not like is that feral get MAJOR dps buff (savage roar anyone?)
and balance get...just some adjustment ....it not that great
even resto look sweet even with lifebloom nerf/"fix to how it suppose"

I agree with Tamarind 100%, pure boomkin is better in so many way in my opinion. The rewards are just so great in pretty much every aspect, and resto spells don't become to useful without you giving up too many balance points, which just isn't worth it to me. My pure boomkin tends to beat most resto/balance hybrids, including the ones who get the bear charge. I think when people really know how to use a pure boomkin, they are extremely powerful, and extremely useful in raids. When talking about going resto for moonkin dps, it's not going as high up as a restokin/dreamstate healer/however you want to call those hybrid PvP specs. It's about going in resto to take Intensity, and that's it (and Subtlety at a certain gear level).
A pure moonkin is an OOM one, Intensity is simply that good.
Or alternatively, if you have the gear + shaman + spriest combo that is able to keep you up without Intensity, then you have the gear to overthreat the tank and will need Subtlety anyway.
That's for current raiding, we don't know enough about WotLK raiding at the moment to say wether Intensity will still be needed or not. However, considering that stats and current formulas, it's quite probable that Intensity will still be largely better in terms of mana regen than Dreamstate (hence the builds with Intensity, OOC, MS and no Dreamstate)
