Good Professions for a Warlock?
Return to board index
Post by

Well, I just started playing WoW about a week ago (after a year of watching my cousin play), I got Burning Crusade, and made a Blood-Elf Warlock. I got the character to level 9 and now I'm choosing professions. I'm choosing Tailoring for sure because I think it's great for a Warlock since cloth is pretty much what they wear. I am unsure on what other profession to take, any advice?

Tailoring/Enchanting is a good combo. You can disenchant anything that you craft and don't use to get the materials you need to lvl enchanting.
On a side note, Orcs and Undead make better warlocks than blood elves, thanks to their uber racials. Just a heads up, but if you like the blood elf, keep it.

Thanks, I'll go for thaqt then. I did hear Enchanting is kind of expensive though... Is it true?

Well, I chose Tailoring for now. I just hit level 11 and entered Silvermoon city (it's huge!), and I encountered the profession first aid, is it any good for a warlock?

Yes, it's a secondary profession...so you can learn it, cooking, and fishing in addition to the other two that you choose.
First aid is definitely useful in both solo grinding and group play/instancing to take some strain off of your healers. As a warlock I haven't had to rely near as much on first aid as a rogue or hunter, etc due to having Drain Life and Siphon Life, but it still has its uses.

Okay, thanks for all the advice guys.

Um... Another question (sorry), I have tailoring and Engineering but I was still able to get First-Aid, is there a reason to that?.. I thought we could only have two professions at a time.

The tailoring/enchanting combination is definitely a money vacuum. I might go with Jewelcrafting, as it can be just as useful as enchanting, and also
make
you some money.
Regarding JC...
Jewelcrafting does make money, but it doesn't make much money on its own right. Acquiring all the patterns meant I spent over 9000 gold, and then you probably make 5-15 gold on a cut generally at most. Fortunately, you don't care about all the patterns, so you'll probably only spend 800-1000g to get a few interesting patterns, at least initially. Mining is where the
actual
jewelcrafting money is, and you'll have to pick it up anyways just so you don't drain too much gold leveling JC up (otherwise JC becomes up another money vacuum).
Having done this, you lose tailoring. Gear-wise, tailoring and enchanting are the BEST you can do (tailoring is replaceable after a certain point however). Jewelcrafting has more options for "self-only buffs" (bop gems) versus enchanting (ring enchants), but is weaker.
I suggest Enchanting/Tailoring, but you can go with Mining/Jewelcrafting if you want, like I did. If you -do- have a miner alt, you could pick something up other than mining, but only then.

I am not sure if I can write a question or not on another person's topic page but anyhow, are alchemy and herbalisim usefull for warlocks? I was thinking of letting my warlock alt have either alchemy/herbalisim or jewelcrafting/mining. If the answer for the first question is yes then please tell me which is more usefull, JC/mining or alchemy/herbalisim.
PS:
On a side note, Orcs and Undead make better warlocks than blood elves, thanks to their uber racials. Just a heads up, but if you like the blood elf, keep it.
People don't really care for blood elf racials anymore, almost everyone now makes a blood elf warlock just to get them the Arena Gladiator Set 2. Looks great on them ^^

He now has 11k sitting around in his bank with nothing to do with it. He's also a greedy son of an owlbear, so it may be a slightly unique talent. :P
Ah, I only have a little over 9k gold sitting around. :P

As a warlock who from the start has done Tailoring/Enchanting I can say that while it is an interesting way to go, in my experience you will make more money from the mats you make by disenchanting greens and better than you will from enchanting itself. That said I have not got the high level drop enchant formulas, as I don't do instances. Also by disenchanting quest rewards while it supplies plenty of mats you will lose out on the money you would make vendoring them. In regards BoE items that drop, me, my brother and my girlfriend have a deal between us, if after 2, or 3 if it very rare, AH attempts I get it to disenchant. It works well for all of us, as I give free enchants to them.
