The Pandaren might not be seen as a playale race in the game, but perhaps we'll see them as a peaceful (non-killable) race in their own small village some day. There's a secret Pandaren resort in one of the campaigns of Warcraft III if I recall correctly.
Meanwhile, I'll bring up that there IS a (non-killable)
Panda
in the game already.
Samwise
loves these creatures very much, and is probably the main cause Pandaren exist. Take a look at
his site
if you like good art.

I would love to see a link to an official post by blizz stating the Chinese gov't is the reason there are no Pandarens. Personally I find the whole idea ridiculous and unfounded. The only link to japanese culture from what I've ever seen comes from a
picture
with a pandaren dressed in robes with a little pandaren wearing a yukata on top of him.
I'm also interested in where exactly Pandarens helped alliance because from what I've played in WC3 they appeared only during the Horde campaign and the Blood Elf campaign. I have never seen anything pointing them towards assisting alliance.
Personally tho I would rather they stay out of the game, or at least not become a playable race. It's bad enough dealing with the number of people playing elves. The 'cute pokemon' factor Pandarens bring with them would be unbearable for me.
Finally, i don't read any of the novels but I find a lot of what I read on wowwiki to be completely ficticious. It seems like the site makes assumptions on lore way too often.

As big as we may think Blizzard is, I don't think they have enough clout to tell an government to "eff off". If they were to include Pandaren, I would rather see them as neutral NPCs then a playable race.

Ok so killing Pandas is wrong but killing Cows, Zebras, Lions, Birds etc is ok? The game involves killing so for me anything is fair game
If it wasn't for the fact that Pandas happen to be an endangered species in China where they are so heavily protected that killing a Panda is punishable by death by the Chinese government (whose insane censorship board Blizzard has to pass) you'd be absolutely right.
Regardless Blizzard might still be able to implement them as an unkillable neutral race.

A good solution to the "cute pokemon" factor in my opinion is using furbolgs instead. Not as WIN, but they are more...for lack of a better word...hardcore.
Thats a good idea, too bad we alredy have fulborgs in the game.
Pandas are a great idea, even if just as an important neutral faction like the Zandalar once were.
As to the 'cute pokemon' thing,

look me in the eyes and tell me that doesn't scream raging pwner.

While the Pandarens started out as a joke, they now have a completely-developed culture and class structure thanks to the tabletop Warcraft and WoW role-playing games. They have unique classes such as Brewmaster, Wardancer, and Shodo-pan, but they also share classes with other races (albeit with somewhat different names) like Hunter (Rifleman/Archer), Shaman, Warrior, etc.
I again have to agree with the statement that China has no valid complaint because there is no actual harm done to pandas by including the Pandaren. In fact, given the nature of the race (that they are primarily pacifist but incredibly skilled warriors), I would consider it a compliment were they included.
:P I still don't completely believe the entire "offended China" thing is the cause. I think it's just the most popular, if only slightly accurate, accepted excuse.

The desire I have to play a pandaren brewmaster is immense.
All I have to say, is that Blizzard will make money off of me if they include them. They just have to worry about not LOSING money because of lawsuits.
